CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

It's really a childish defense like "well my mom didn't tell me I couldn't play with the oven." which is really par for the course from what they've been putting out thus far. It's kind of like reading RT, or reading the Onion, and pretty blatantly blaming the victim. Not to mention that it's an attempt to move the goalposts away from the argument about whether or not they are violating copryright to generate profit, and instead moving to the existence of a vague set of rules, even though if they existed at all, it wouldn't change the fact that they're blatantly violating copyright and attempting to generate a profit.
I agree, Alec & Co (and now their P.R. manager) toss out blame in every direction. Blame CBS/P. Blame the "haters." Blame the media and bloggers. Blame everyone not in goose-step with Axanar. Alec & Co. have no one to blame but themselves.

IMO, a mature adult will take a step back, evaluate and analyze, then accept responsibility for their actions. So far all I've seen from Alec are childlike tantrums and finger pointing.

This is even funnier, check this out. Keep in mind this what passes off as "public relations" at Axanar.
I might laugh, but this entire article is the kind of self-interested over-analysis that over decades, one grows so very bone-achingly weary of in any line of work. just STFU and answer the intellectual content of the direct questions, or get the hell out. they really need an adult in the room who is in charge of hiring and firing and of the company, and who is not hesitant to clean house of the crap that is going to do them in sure as if they were already at terminal velocity and 100ft from the ground, which metaphorically, they surely are.

I hope for a decisive legal burn-to-ground-and-3ft-for-good-measure, just so I can get back to Trek knowing I never have to even think about a trace of their actions.

this kind of pure trash inflicted on fans is disgusting, and it is very very rarely I characterize anything that way.

I agree with you. To clarify, I meant funny as in a huge cringe.

yes, I went there thinking it might be just a bit naive like the prior quote :wtf:, but came away recognizing one of the uglier patterns I have seen over the years with people who deserve to be ejected from a firm with their papers fluttering around them. I am not at all clear anymore how anyone sees this person as "reasonable". more window dressing good cop bad cop sales pitching to bloggers and the press, I guess. what an enormous pile of rubbish to try to bury simple factual challenges from articulate questioners.

I think Alec & Co are doing nothing more than trying to wage an online popularity contest satiating their collective egos. Of course that means diddly squat when sitting in front of the judge. Legally they don't have a leg to stand on. They've played Calvinball with everyone trying ask serious questions so I don't take them seriously at all anymore. On the plus side if some Trek fan wants to make a fan film in the future asking what shouldn't be done .... Axanar. :D

Alack might want to ask himself the Eternal and Time-Honored Question:

"How can you be two places at once, when you're not anywhere at all?"

Indeed
Alack... that reminds me of something...

So the ever-changing story about why Prelude director Christian Gossett left Axanar changes again, according to replacement director Robert Meyer Burnett. In his interview released last week by the Blind Panels podcast, Burnett characterized Gossett's departure like this:
Christian [Gossett], the original director of Prelude, left the project. I don't think he liked the ambitious scope of the project. I think he might've been a little intimidated [by] what we all wanted to do, Alec wanted to do. So he left.

I bet dollars to donuts that Christian would object to him being portrayed as "intimidated" by the ambition behind Alec Peters' vision for a $2 million independent film, which is well within Christian's wheelhouse.

Let's not forget the reason Tony Todd signed aboard the project to begin with was because of his confidence in Christian's vision, not Alec Peters'.

Something sounds ... not right here. First we're told Christian left because of another gig, now it's because he was scared off by the enormity of it all. I think there's a bigger story here.

That quote, by the way, appears at 01:12:40 in the Blind Panels podcast, which is produced by an organization that adapts comic books for blind people.

Viewed in context, RMB has always been a bit of a maladjusted blowhard in the style of Lord Alec (i.e. they're both egotistical narcissists who don't know when to shut up), so this isn't all that surprising to me.

What is surprising though is that Terry has been quiet lately. I've blocked all Axanar-related garbage from facebook, but given his past behavior, I would've expected him to be spouting off right along with his compatriots. Might he be the next one to jump ship??

One has to give Mike B. some credit though for trying...........I would think though that if he of all people saw the evidence, then his opinions would change. If he wants to go down with that ship though............

I do give Mr. Bawden props. An attempt at a dialogue begun. A step. If there are underlying reasons that has prompted this I will not hold concern at this time. It is a step. A beginning dialogue among factions of sentiments with only Mr. Bawden standing in the middle of everyone. I do give him props. And I recognize the fragility of this move as we are currently very divided peoples. I foresee rough waters at least at first as we try to find footing in a dialogue among disparate thinkers. One such rough spot for me is I do not like that pigeonhole list. I don't see that I fit neatly anywhere in it and I am offended that at least the same effort wasn't made to make an equal breakdown of the varieties, or levels of fanaticism that is vocally supporting this produ........ whatever, never mind, This kind of labeling for any/all so-called grouping is offensive to me.

So I will ignore that list at this time, consider it a rough patch in a brand new effort, with only one man at the center everything, trying to do his job, a PR job, trying to start a dialogue. Yup. I give him props.

I tend to think that Peters is trying to get some donors together to "buy" Ares Studios before discovery starts. I imagine once the things he has done are shown all together, the donors will flee and wonder what the fuck they were thinking supporting him.

If you're interested, try reading the latest article by Axanar's P.R. manager Mike Bawden here.

Here's a selected quote:

"You see, if there are no actual “rules” from CBS that can be broken (an assertion supported by Alec’s experience in dealing directly with CBS licensing), then the foundation of arguments made by Rod Roddenberry, Wil Wheaton and other producers are factually undermined. Axanar Productions couldn’t “follow the rules” because there were no rules to actually follow."

WTF kind of rhetorical silliness is that?

Using this rock-solid logic, I can pull up to a Burger King drive through and throw a flaming bag of dog shit through the drive through window because there are no rule posted that I can't do such a thing.

Except there are multiple laws regarding assault and arson I have just violated. Even if I plead ignorance to such laws, I still broke them.
