CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I have another technical question. They're talking about specifying which episodes/movies the infringed material came from, would that be just their first appearance or every appearance? Would they have to list every appearance of a Klingon or Vulcan, or just Errand of Mercy and whatever episode they want to use as the first appearance of Vulcans?

To clarify, the $200,000.00 per year came directly from a comment Peters made in the Hollywood Reporter article yesterday:

I take my prior comment back. If THR has an anti sockpuppet policy for their forums, they should enforce it even if its just this one case. "a guy with his talents..." coming from a sock puppet would be ridiculous.

$38,000 that he reported. I'm sure he benefitted from some of the other columns, like the car stuff and the phone stuff and the traveling to conventions.

Neil
Agreed. When you read that report, virtually all his expenses were covered thanks to donated funds, so the money was gravy. So the "minimum wage" nonsense is just typical hand-waving BS.

People who have spent a years developing Trek fan films, James Cawley for example could probably earn themselves that kind of money if they worked as Hollywood producers. He also never managed to piss off CBS/Paramount with STNV to the point where they were forced to take legal action.

Also, self-congratulatory posts such as ' He deserves to get paid for creating and building the most amazing Star Trek fan film project ever' are frankly nauseating.

There are a ton of questions about what that donor money paid for.

His alleged car? The IMDb subscription? SAG dues? What else did Darth Garth appropriate donated funds for? I am sincerely hoping Loeb & Loeb push to get a legit accounting of where all the money went.

My favorite scene from Star Trek Insurrection:

ALEC PETERS:
Karzak, I only paid myself $38,000.00.

KARZAK:
How many dollars does it take, Alec, before it becomes wrong? Hmm? A thousand? Fifty thousand? A million? How many dollars does it take, dipshit?

I'd rather we didn't call him "Lord Garth." It besmirches the username of an esteemed TrekBBS alumnus who sadly hasn't been seen much in these parts lately.

Do we know for a fact that this is Peters himself, and not just one of his worshippers? If it's somebody who thinks that honestly, then I can just roll my eyes, but if he's saying that about himself, then it's kind of sickening.

It is him, and he's done this in the past. It's his MO to join under different usernames (usually Red Omega) and bolster himself while tearing other fan productions down.

I would think that the Axanar folks would have fallen all over themselves to take advantage of any settlement offer, but as per usual I underestimated their hubris and pig-headedness.

EDIT: Here's my IMDb page, complete with every single thing I've done in my ten years in Hollywood (and some stuff prior).

Tell me, in your general estimation, which of us is the professional failure in the film and television industry?

Actually, I have always imagined script coordinator for Jane the Virgin to be the toughest job in Hollywood. This is a legitimate thought that has crossed my mind while watching / hearing about Jane the Virgin.

Kudos. Sorry you got doxxed, though.

As fan films go I really enjoy NV and Continues and look forward to their new episodes. The post ENT/pre TOS era in which Axanar is set doesn't really interest me so I paid little attention to it. I only saw it once just after the lawsuit was announced to see what the fuss is about.
Besides Tobias Richter's CG work and nostalgia tour of seeing old Trek alumni again, I couldn't for the life of me figure out what all the hype was over?! It didn't feel like I was watching TWOK level Trek by any means.

Meh, he borrowed it from a delusional megalomaniac character in TOS. Seems fitting.
