CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

will be interesting if the attorneys stamp out all fight from it except for legalese. but then why did they take it pro bono if they only aim at settlement?
That's what I've wondered. There's a reason to do it if they go to trial and get results that affect IP law in some favorable (or at least less unfavorable) way for companies and projects like Axanar. That's great PR.

That said, given the things Peters has said and the directions the Axanar websites have taken since the lawyers signed on, I'm wondering how much of their own due diligence they did before taking the case. Really. If they are able to pull something off I a trial, they'd have to be the talk of the trade. The only thing a settlement gets them if they can minimize the damage to Peters et al is something I posted before: they beat the "death penalty." And, if the lawyers can save at least some of Axanar's ass, think of what they can do for you and the problem you're in.

Last question before further thread drift, the point about relenquishing creative control. Didn't he veto the whole 'Kid sidekick' for each of the main characters that had been proposed? I know art was produced in the preproduction phase of TAS.

I believe that was for a late-60s animated series that was in development but didn't go anywhere. The Filmation series was a different project altogether.

I think the only extent GR was involved with TAS was for the residuals and any other paycheck he got.;)

For what it's worth, Gerrold claims Gene did have some input into BEM:

Gerrold: Roddenberry started out by saying he was going to be personally involved in every script, but as time wore on, he didn't have the strength to continue. Gene didn't write any of the scripts himself. The real problem was that Gene was having some difficulties at the time and he couldn't always remember what he'd previously said about a story; so from one draft to the next, he was always changing direction. His notes on "BEM" were very confusing and he added elements that I felt pulled the story way off its original premise. When in doubt, Gene always had Kirk get into a fight with God.

I'd actually thought that I'd heard somewhere that BEM was a rejected script for a TOS Ep. Can't remember where though.

Oh, and Gerrolds version of how Kirk got his middle name:

Gerrold: ... I think it happened at a Star Trek convention, where we all started speculating about what the T stood for. I, Claudius had just aired on PBS, so I said "Tiberius" as a joke. Later on, others picked up on it. So when TAS started, I wrote it in as a line of dialog. DC Fontana passed it by Gene at some point, and it stuck.

IIRC, the "second season" of TAS was comprised of scripts that D.C. Fontana had initially passed on for the animated series. After she departed the series after the first season, these scripts were selected for publishing.

Well, it is quite a coincidence that Gerrold and the gang hit on the middle name "Tiberius" when, of all "T" names, Roddenberry had used "Tiberius" as a middle name for the lead character of his previous television series. I wouldn't even want to try to compute the odds....

In spite of quoting Gerrold, I don't know if I would either.

I'm not saying Gerrold's lying or gone nuts, but that's a pretty big coincidence and everyone's memory plays tricks on them. The odds look ever greater when he admits that Gene at least played a small part in writing that script.

Then again, weird shit happens.

Gerrold sort of has a history of doing just that, let's not forget he also "cryptomnesia'd" the idea of tribbles from Heinlein.

... our server move this morning was a success and the geeky bits that allowwww.axanarproductions.com to get to the website's new home are working their way through the internet now. ... Thank you for your patience while this long-postponed hardware move was finally crossed off of the to-do list!

UPDATE: Thanks again for everyone's patience today. It was discovered that there was a router issue with our new static IP block at the new facility, and this compounded the issue that was already at hand, but everything has been resolved and all services are again available as of approximately 5:45pm PDT. Thankfully physical server moves between co-location facilities don't happen often! smile emoticon

The last time I asked about this the quote was not fresh on my mind, but I ran across this again and it doesn't sound like servers owned by a service. I might just be ignorant. :D What do you think?

I just listened to Walter Koenig's interview on Trek.FM and he said that Roddenberry wrote the final draft for every script on TAS. Apparently he would make everyone do a dozen rewrites.

I'm a computer engineer, let me translate.. ;)

He is trying to say the hosting company they used moved into a new facility, the the geeky bits he is talking about is DNS propagation to the new IP address. Servers for the website are not hosted Axanar Studios. Their site is being hosted by Cloud Flare (https://www.cloudflare.com/ )

Interesting that axanarproductions.com/ is registered to Propworx, Alec should probably change that so its under his own name (not listing Propworx at all) , because it implies Ananar is owned by Propworx. I know he owns both companies, but it should be separated for legal reasons.

Question. Because Propworx is owning Axanar can money be used from Axanar for propworx?
I doubt there is a lot of separation between the two. The annual financial report doesn't list where the money raised by several separate campaigns ostensibly designed to benefit the movie went, so I don't doubt that some of that money went to Propworx.

Keep in mind I was just referring to the contact info on the domain name, which many people don't seem to get right LOL. I'm sure on paper they are 2 different companies. As for cash flow, I'm sure some of it benefited Propworx. The auditors can find that out.
