CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I take it Tony Todd won't be appearing at Axa-con?

Probably not. Hatch will be there though. Hatch is everywhere. :)

(Also, I may be laughing at Hatch's ubiquity, but I greatly respect his work ethic. He knows what he needs to do to make a living with his passion and he does it.)

He's just milking the fans for cash, just like many other has-beens. I find it kind of sad, honestly.

Seen on the Axanar Fan Group page:

I wonder if that means the Sci-Fi Film School is on too?

Axa-Con? !!??

Wow - Given the current litigation status of 'Axanar' as a production, I can't believe his lawyers would be okay with this as if there is ANY sort of paid admission fee for 'Axa-Con' - it would bolster any possible 'financial damage' claims Paramount/CBS would be able to bring to the current lawsuit. (Also gotta love Mr. Peters facebook avatar - 'see, I have kids; how can anyone see me as a con man?...'

How hard would it be to change it over? As hard as submitting a couple of forms to the Orange County government, paying a small tax, and that's it. It's a quitclaim situation. And in the past year? Never been done.

kinda like the 501(c)3 situation. How long has he has someone working on it? more than 6 months? How about an update, or specifically, the draft content of it, particularly parts 3, 4, 5 and 10, treating the organizing document's statement of charitable purpose and board structure, the past/present/future charitable activities, the compensation, and the finances?

The thing is, once the specifics of that application are prepared, and especially once they are sent to the IRS, he is locked into a corporate framework that ACTUALLY precludes things like investors, making profit off the facilities, etc. All the waffling about "nonprofit" or "not profitable" would have to end. A variety of supporting actions like filing for state corporate tax exemption also have to be set in motion.

The fact that when pressed he simply says it is "in process" forever sends a pretty strong signal.

I never sent him anything nor have I ever posted anything on any of his fan groups. What I posted is the entirety of our communication with each other.

That's not even including his little henchman's threats the week before. Terry got all uppity because people were saying mean things and he couldn't control the message.
Good to know. I'm amazed he'd have time to screw around on the internet tracking down people who said mean things about him and his little project, when he is so busy setting up a studio, dealing with a lawsuit, furnishing an office, making a movie, and now setting up a convention.

I can't believe he's doing this Axa-con thing. With everything going on right now you'd think he'd want to just lay low and focus his energy on dealing with lawsuit and making sure Axanar is actually going to happen.

It's just more evidence that this wasn't simply a fan film.

He's obeying with the court order (?) not to film anything - but he's still carrying out every other bit of this enterprise. Conventions and donations and fulfillment and building out an office for a professional studio - all the while he's getting a salary. So now he's paying himself NOT TO MAKE A DAMNED MOVIE.

If someone shut down filming STC or any of the other ones, what else would there be left to do? Nothing. They'd all go back to their 9-5 jobs or get other gigs.

Not Peters. He's going to ride this into the fucking ground.

I hate to be this way, but for those of you who have had one on one run ins with Peters, is he the one initiating contact, or are you guys sending him messages? Becuase if you guys are sending him antagonistic messages I kind of can't blame him for responding in kind. I'm not trying to take his side here, I just want to make sure I have all of the facts.
I hope I'm not taking this out of context, but Peters has said, "I have not had one hater message me on Facebook."

Neil

So... Even though they voluntarily put the film is on hold, will CBS still push for an injunction that will take his site down and remove videos from Youtube, etc, etc ?

I wrote a blog with my thoughts on Peters ages ago. A friend of mine shared the 1701 article - I posted the link to the blog in my thoughts. Alec (not friends with either of us on Facebook - no direct contact) commented out of nowhere.

He then shat it and bailed when he realised I had a dozen questions for him since he decided to pop in for a chat.

It's made me start pondering his mental state right now. People have given me shitty reviews before - it's part of the package. I've never felt the need to do a Jay and Silent Bob spending all my time and energy beating people up for their opinion.

If you can't handle the slightest amount of criticism, then certainly you should work in Los Angeles - specifically, making movies for a franchise that's never once been criticized by it's own fans.
