CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Some one poked into Alec's finances, was asking about an investment. It turned out it was related to buying a house. The house's adress was posted. The investment was actually just a way to help buy a house for/with people close to Alec. The OP had a PM conversation with Alec where things got heated.

Asking about the investment, ok but off topic,
Publishing the adress? Why? Over the line.
Continuing to argue once it was clear it was a personal matter? Over the line.

Oh I did not know his god kids were pulled into this. Yes, those types of posts are unacceptable. The group should be about discussing the merits of the situation at hand, not personal attacks on innocents.
It seemed that every few days @Squiggy or one of the other admins was having to smack someone down for making a personal attack or going off the rails. I am sad because it was a ton of fun watching poor Axanar Marines wander in and get destroyed, and I learned a lot about the legal process, as well as IP law. But I think he made the right choice because for every instance of bad behavior on the part of a group member - there were several instances of even nastier behavior on the part of the "fans of Axanar."

Sean I love the Titan design. It was extremely well done. Kudos to you! @Titan Designer

@Squiggy - Thanks for the most fun I have had on the Internet since I was a teenager and discovered... well... things.
Gross. Banned.

He received a threat from Peters' lawyers to shut down I Stand with CBS
Not correct.

I received a threat from someone else. I took evasive action and proactively shuttered the group.

Please tell me you guys are not giving in to threats

If you'd like to fund my defense from frivolous lawsuits filled a full contient away, be my guest. I took the advise of my council/wife and took the necessary steps to remove myself from the equation.

His stuff never has any merit, but the threats alone are enough to shut up people who don't have a million bucks and pro-bono representation.

Well fun while it lasted then. . . and yes if personal info was posted to the public then I get why it got shut down. . .

I swear I don't get some people. . .

The person asking the question, didn't know his God-kids lived there. He saw Alec's name on a corporate filing, and followed the trail. He posted a screen cap of the corporate listing, and then followed the address on the corporate listing to the home, which was in Peters' name. The poster didn't knowingly pull Alec's God Kids into this.

He was asking about the investment, because of the timing of when the corporation was filed. (early 2015.) The address was published when he posted the picture of the corporate filing, or linked to the corporate filing. Which is a matter of public record (As is the ownership of the home) .

It is regrettable that the information was put out there, and can't be taken back. But I don't think the person who posted this, who is a published journalist, intended to create any sort of public threat against those in the house. If anything it was irresponsible, but again, I don't think it was put out there for nefarious reasons.

Shame I enjoyed the group, but there are too many crazy's willing to post what they shouldn't.

It was only a matter of time before something very ugly happened, there are a lot of nutbar's in the Marine Core(corp?)

The current zeitgeist of doxing people whom one disagrees with seems to make this kind of thing more likely to occur by those who are not intending to do harm. One of those moving the posts type situation where, in the past, one would consider slightly more carefully what you disclose and the implications, but the posts have move so far down the field, it's easier to disclose with less considerations of collateral damage, etc. :/

I think that "I Stand with CBS" did perform one valuable service: it clearly showed that Alec Peters and his closest supporters are insecure bullies who cannot brook opposition, honest inquiry, or reality.

Well, we all knew that, before, but it demonstrated it just far more clearly. Pro- or con- Axanar, you have to shake your head every time he speaks out; he's doing more damage to his cause than if he just kept things to himself.

Most of us were in there to poke fun at the Axanar fanatics but the few crazies pushed it over the line on occasion.

Odd because people are far more civil (generally) in here where you can't tell who we all are than out there in the real (Facebook) world :D

People know who I am...

I'm Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions

Cause on Facebook people think they get the right to hurt you IRL if you disagree with them but still play the whole "it's internet, just fucking chill" card.

Frankly, this is why I hate the whole "real name" and "real ID" bullshit that's getting more common. I t's dangerous and it serves no purpose cause it only makes online bullies more embolden cause now they can get at you IRL

Quite honestly, I am sad that my FB feed, instead of being filled with snarky memes, Downfall videos, and the occasional axamarine post, will go back to the potential of a Trump/Sanders matchup in the fall, making me all the more sad... at least the group provided a nice distraction.

I read all of that this morning before the group clanged shut. That whole thing was just too far. Then again, the guy who posted it seemed a little unhinged. But I respect Squiggy for doing what was in his best interest. I'm just sorry the Axanerds will declare it a "victory."

That may be true... but those poor souls need some tiny straw to hold on to before their world comes crashing down. I will say this - I am fairly sure that Alec's grand plans to be a Hollywood mogul are o.v.e.r.

Greetings, folks. I am a refugee from the CBS page, hoping you will let me play in your sandbox. I was the one who kept harping on Alec's inability to follow labor law. And I think I came to his defense regarding the property purchase but martinis were involved, so there's that. Nice to meet you!

I'm sure most of us have read the above text before but I did want to put it out there. It is, of course, the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

What you might not know quite so well is the following text:

That ^ is the California constitution, from Article 1, 'Declaration of Rights'.

There are similar statements in the constitutions of all of the states. Such statements are in the Canadian Charter (Part 2, 'Fundamental Freedoms'). Much of Europe is covered by the European Convention of Human Rights (Article 10, 'Expression'). You will find similar language in governmental charters and constitutions around the world.

There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that this language, whatever is specific to your jurisdiction, applies.

Bringing people not directly named in the lawsuit, who are not responsible for the goings-on at Axanar Productions, is always a bad idea and shows terrible judgment - among other things.

I am sad that the 'house' was brought up. That's Alec's personal business and not relevant to anything. I'm familiar with it and there is "nothing there".

One of the questions asked, is where has the money been spent. The creation of a corporation in another state, by the principle, isn't necessarily out of bounds in terms of questioning.

What is unfortunate, is, that because all dialogue constructive or otherwise, has broken down, and there is no venue to ask legitimate questions, this is the sort of thing that happens.

The person question should have dropped it, once the dots were connected, and maybe deleted the posting at that point, once it was determined it was irrelevant. The person shouldn't have doubled down on their actions this morning, posting a defense.
