CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

For all that many fans insist that the story content of nuTrek is what they object to, they spend a lot of time complaining about the way it looks. I suspect a lot of the support for Axanar goes no deeper than the fact that sets, costumes, make-up designs and so forth are so heavily TOS-influenced.

Which is odd on two levels:

1. The ship designs are very nuTrek
2. As others have pointed out, the story content seems more like a nuBSG Blood & Chrome episode

Also, as an aside, I wonder if Prelude ended up being so expensive due to Graham, Hatch, Hertzler, Todd and Vernon being paid in the neighborhood of $10-20k each for appearing?

I loved Alec's tirade... it just demonstrates that he doesn't really get it.

My favorite part:
So keep lying up a storm. Axanar is simply better than you.

The saddest part for the Axanar folk: if Alec could have just kept his mouth shut instead of responding to every little negative thing ever said about him, he would look about 1000x more legit, and would probably have a lot more support. Not that it would make what the did right, but that's entirely beside the point. :shifty:

Truth.

Out of curiosity, where are you getting that figure ($10-$20k) from? Is that an official amount cited by the budget or someone on the production?

Just out of curiosity I was looking around the Axanar Facebook page this morning, and I had to fight the urge to post about how CBS was right, and how Peters screwed everything up. While I know it would have been unpleasant for me, it sure would have been entertaining.
EDIT: David Gerrold has a couple more posts on the Axanar blog. I thought he actually brought up some decent ideas in the second one, but the third one kind of bugs me. With all of this Axanar stuff it's been bugging how the Axanar supporters are acting like all Trek fans haven't liked the Abrams movies, or any of the stuff Paramount and CBS have done the last few years. I know for a fact that's not true, I'm a lifelong Trekkie and I loved both of Abrams movies, and while I don't like them as much as DS9 and TNG, I still liked Voyager and Enterprise.
Gerrolds also makes a big deal about how much the loss of Gene Rodenberry hurt the franchise, but I have to disagree with that too. I do respect that he created the franchise, but most of the stuff I like best about Trek was stuff he had little to no involvement in, like the TOS movies, later TNG, and DS9. In general the franchise continued going strong for quite a few years after the death of Rodenberry, so it can't have hurt the franchise that badly.

I agree with you completely, if he had thought before reacting, and maintained a diplomatic and professional approach and TONE he really would have come off much better. Instead of looking like a spoiled 12 year old he would have looked like a legitimate leader and professional.......too late for that.

It was based on the $15k day rate mentioned earlier for Tony Todd.

Truth.

According to the Axanar annual report, they spent $7,000 for "cast"; a $2,000 "promotional fee" paid to Tony Todd; and a $5,000 payment to an entity identified as "Metamorfic".

Meh. I never joined the group, but given Lord Alec's tendency to pre-ban/block people, I'm amazed he hasn't zeroed in on me yet as I can still see most of what they're doing.

EDIT: THanks for the reply, oswriter. I figured it was unlikely that the actors would be being paid as much as $20K for their appearances in "Prelude."

It's also sort of odd that Gerrold defends Rodenberry so strongly since Rodenberry pretty much screwed him over during TNG, but I guess Gerrold knows who butters his bread (or maybe he's compartmentalized all of the blame onto Maizlish).

I'd say the difference was expectation with a hint of rose tinted glasses and to a large degree in a small minorty of fans, emotional dysfunction.

There are some who violently and aggressively pick apart flaws with the new whilst with the same anger and passion defend flaws of old or pick apart JJ for not being a fan, yet pass over/forgive others for committing the sane sin.
Well yes. In my case, I expect to be entertained, but I don't like being spoon fed.
With both SW:TFA and ST:XI I was disappointed - because of plot holes/poor execution. Ditto for the 2nd and 3rd Hobbit movies - they promised much and delivered less than I anticipated.

Not only the designs but the beauty passes are ripped straight from ST09 and the Klingon crash scene is almost a shot-for-shot remake of the Vengance crash in STID.

For the sake of reference:
