I get requests for information from writers with Buzzfeed (260 MILLION monthly readers) and Yahoo (6 F'n BILLION readers a month.) That's what I mean by legitimate.
Thing is, it was coming sooner or later, Peters or otherwise. Renegades was getting bigger. You have Michael Dorn trying to do a Worf show. I think if not Axanar than at some point someone else would have gone too far. It's perhaps a testament to dear Alec's ego that he got there first!
“CBS has not authorized, sanctioned or licensed this project in any way, and this has been communicated to those involved,” a representative from the network told TheWrap. “We continue to object to professional commercial ventures trading off our property rights and are considering further options to protect these rights.”
"If you really like something, you can steal it", that's what Axanar's latest defense breaks down to: Peters really likes Star Trek so it's okay if he steals it and makes money on it. Well that and "Mommy thinks I'm really special so nah-nah"
This is some shit toddlers know is wrong, but a 50 something man is using this as a legal defense. Saints above and sinners below, I can't believe the childish nonsense I'm reading that is be submit to the court.
Zavin (on intercom): Miss Moneypenny?
Secretary Moneypenny: Yes, Mr. Zavin?
Zavin: Please hold all my calls for a while and if you could make sure the Office Manager orders another gross of tissue boxes, that would be terrific, thanks.
Moneypenny: Something wrong, sir? I'm sorry if something is saddening you. Shall I get Mrs. Zavin on the line?
Zavin: Au contraire, it's not sadness at all. I'm weeping with laughter, that's all.
Moneypenny: Oh, thank goodness! I was concerned.
Zavin: Thank you. Oh, and Miss Moneypenny?
Moneypenny: Sir?
Zavin: Could you have the interns come into my office, please? How many are there again?
Moneypenny: We have sixteen. Four are 1Ls, seven are 2Ls, and the remaining five are recent graduates studying for the Bar exam. Shall I have Maintenance bring in some extra chairs?
Zavin: Yes, that would be terrific, thank you. I'll make the additional copies myself.
~~~~~~ Short musical interlude while Zavin makes copies. VFX shows a slow motion montage of photocopier scenes, interspersed with brief law school flashbacks (note to self: check for public domain status of the John Housman classic film, The Paper Chase). Muzak version of The Girl from Ipanema plays softly in the background~~~~~~~
Interns arrive as the last of the chairs are placed by Maintenance, which then bows out. Interns are of varying ages, etc. It is a diverse bunch. They all sit and look expectantly at Zavin who hands them each a copy of the answer and an opened tissue box with the first tissue thoughtfully pulled up and within reach.
Zavin: Welcome to Legal Practice 101. Last person to use up a tissue box wins a bonus!
~~~~~~Short musical interlude as interns read frantically. Tissues fly. Muzak version of Eye of the Tiger plays in the background, building to a crescendo as two interns, a man and a woman battle to the end (note to self: check for availability of Scarlett Johansson and a grizzled actor, maybe Mickey Rourke or Nick Nolte?)~~~~~~
The music ends.
Zavin: Well, I'm afraid no one won that round. But don't worry. The sushi's on me!
Fade to black.
Let me put it this way. Axamonitor is a blog that gets around 13K visitors a month. They have never once contacted me. On the other hand, I get requests for information from writers with Buzzfeed (260 MILLION monthly readers) and Yahoo (6 F'n BILLION readers a month.) That's what I mean by legitimate. They're obviously not as reliable as me since I'm actually connected to the production and speak to the filmmakers and legal team every day.
Thanks for the vote of confidence in AxaMonitor, T'Bonz!
I noted in the comments on your TrekToday article that Morey Altman, Axanar's international PR representative, ...

Everyone at Axanar seems to be both a drama AND a size queen.
Michael Dorn is advocating/pitching his idea to CBS, not trying to make his own fan film.Thing is, it was coming sooner or later, Peters or otherwise. Renegades was getting bigger. He's got no reason to delay, as it is now. The judge told them could make the movie.All good and I agree 100%.
All I meant was IF he does get a chance, then he suddenly has to deliver.
No more delays, no more excuses.
This is from last Saturday. It's not new and the lawsuit is still in the works. A settlement is being worked on rather than has been reached.
Which is ironic, given that those of us in the industry have resumes markedly bigger than Alec's.![]()
Wrong link. Try again: http://1701news.com/node/1211/will-cbs-continue-axanar-lawsuit-its-own.htmlHmm. The update has been updated since I posted the link. The original said that although Paramount was withdrawing from the lawsuit, CBS was continuing in light of the counterclaim filed by Ax. Don't know what the story is now.
