CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I'm with you. I'd rather see a good script well acted on limbo set than expensive museum pieces with amateur hour scripts that say nothing. I don't get the thrill some people seem to get from elaborate sets and effects in lieu of a well told story.
Because people who just want flashy sets are just in it to fulful their childhood dreams of being on a starship, not their adult dreams of producing a well-written script.

I feel comfortable revealing what I told Rob, but not what he told me. It's fair to say that he is frustrated he spent so much time and effort on something that does not look like it will ever happen. And he told me what he put on Twitter, which is that the movie doesn't exist and therefore he's not the director.
If this defense holds up, CONGRATS...you've just legalized premeditated murder, solicitation of prostitution, and a litany of crimes that are before-the-fact.

If a Star Ship enters a nebula under impulse power, in the middle of the Universe, and no one sees it or hears it, does it really Exist?

Mr. Alexaran seems to be thinking "one-dimensionally..."

That's why some of the stuff he posts just blows me away. I applaud you and his other friends that encourage him to walk away from this ASAP. He will need friends when everything crumbles.........I think The Axanar principal, as you say, will only be looking out for himself and anyone close will get hurt.

Y'know, it seems to me that (weeks ago), whenever RMB posted something that seemed like pulling away from the production, it was instantly "erased" (heh) from the Internets by Alec Peters with a "Gosh, he was just joking!" Maybe someone should ask if he's under some kind of pressure from Mr. Peters there.

Then again, so much crap has flown about this in the last few months that my mind might be making things up that never happened. :) There's so much that *did* happen, that it's sometimes hard to tell wild stories from reality where Axanar is concerned...

^^^^ Well, the Horta was in only one episode, and we only saw one of them, so it's a minor character of minimum standing that cannot be copyright, no??
A Horta can be copyrighted, but not the basic idea of a silicon based life form, a creature that tunnels, etc. As always, it's the unique combination of elements and their expression which is copyrightable.

And words themselves can't be copyrighted. You can Trademark "Horta", but you can't Copyright it.

I just noticed this while browsing through Yahoo, and thought about this thread.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/lightsaber-battles-nixed-lucasfilm-lawyers-173815922.html

I haven't heard any Star Wars 'fans' proclaim "Lucasfilm and Disney hates their fans! The fans are what makes these Star Wars films!" and any other rants....

It looks like Disney (and Lucasfilm) are clamping down on the brand, not unlike the era of the original trilogy, since they have some good stuff planned in the future.

They are clamping down on the company "Newmindspace" that has been hosting these events. I read that it was *free* for the participants, but I'll bet that the company was somehow making money on it. Once again, if you make money off someone else's property, it's only fair that you pay them for the privilege, or at the very least ask for permission first. You have no room to complain if they tell you to stop. I doubt Lucas / Disney will say Boo about the YouTube videos of a bunch of kids dueling with light-sticks in the local city park.

Bunch of folks from CBS have started following @AxaMonitor on Twitter. Jus' sayin'…

Personality matters, and the personality of the Axanar principal has rubbed people the wrong way. (He even cast himself as Captain Garth until his team threatened to revolt over the obvious problem that he can’t act.)
Wow. I didn't know that bit, assuming it's true. The impression Team Axanar like to foster is that they're as happy a band of merry people as you could imagine. Perhaps not so much, based on Kendalls insight?

Maybe this has been Posted and answered previously, but, does anyone know if we are being monitored, here?

Because, in all seriousness, as a Layman ( ok, sorta lie, my brother is an attorney) I would be delighted, as someone from Chicago, to speak with them and have a Sit-Down...it's the way we solve problems and resolve differences.

Plus, no pesky trials or judges ('cept the ones we own) or appeals or any a' dat stuff...swear my mutha...

I think that's what bugs me the most about fan films. They don't take the time to develop their scripts. A lot of the problems can be solved on paper before a single frame is shot.

"Mr. Peters!? Your Axanar team is revolting!"

It's been claimed on previous pages, recently, that items in this thread have made their way to the suits via monitoring. If true, it's about the only thread ever that doesn't smack down anyone posting here to send a message to TPTB expecting it to be heard. It's considered delusional everywhere else.

Yes, it's a longshot if not impossible for the fan films to be licensed/sanctioned/legitimized.

To me, there's a million reasons NOT to do it (many of which you have cited, but the biggest just being that it creates an unpredictable if not outright uncontrollable element in a billion dollar franchise)-- and almost NO reason TO do it.
