I am glad he attended the Shatner Speaking School.

"They're trying to keep a man's dream alive." Oh, he meant Roddenberry? I thought he meant Peters.

"Yes, you may technically own everything..." Bingo!

Re Gary Graham's politics. I find that if you have both him and Hertzler on your feed, things even out.

Ha! so true I have them both and few more celebs that you get ton of political commentary from.

I think we need a celebrity TNZ on Trekbbs, Dennis could moderate. ;)

As for that video... no comment LOL

"They're trying to keep a man's dream alive."

you know this part really pisses me off. The hallmark of all Trek characters is that they are *using their intellect* and *representing best determinable fact to each other*.

NO ONE can claim to be keeping a Trek dream alive if they insist in wallowing in their closely held wish fulfillments and not being honest with themselves and others. Lies and slacking off are about as rare in Trek as R2D2 easter eggs.

Wow. Respect his opinion. There's a lot wrong about what he's saying but he has his right to say it. Also, video editors? Wonderful things.

acknowledged with emphasis. not criticizing generally, or being unwilling to welcome someone offering their view. far from it. Its just on this point about "keeping the dream alive" that I feel impatience. so many go around quoting it but think it means "IDIC" or the like. its more direct than that, its the state of consciousness the characters live in. that is the hallmark of the humanism brought to the show. imho

I only made it through about a minute of that video. I'm not trying to be rude, but the way he talked almost made me think he might have some kind of medical condition.

I just had a thought about "keeping Rodenberry's vision alive", I think it's what ended up almost killing the franchise. The people who took over the franchise after Rodenberry died were sticking so closely to his vision that it got repetitive and almost killed the franchise. Sometimes for something to survive it has to change with the times.

this could be interesting without hijacking the thread..

My feeling is you *can* have different levels of presence in the evolving consciousness, such as Picard and Data to name a few represent. I agree with those who argued you don't have to be stuck in pure perfection as one might have found in the early shows. Its harder to write I guess but you can do it well.

There's a difference though between letting the spectrum be wider, and completely throwing away the conscious effort to evolve and the reflection required to do so. Pure pewpew is an example of throwing it all away. In the meta, the way this project was framed inside a very highly likely to be sued business and addons, is for all practical purposes another.

If this project were "keeping the vision alive", it would be totally straight with donors about why there is objection to building a for profit business exploiting a fan-film exemption, and it would be making it clear to donors that alternative explanations are not worthy of their time. Instead, the mere accomplishment of having what [might] be a Trek film is held up as what they should focus on.

I no longer wonder why the Axanar people ban those who offer dissenting viewpoints on their various Facebook groups. After watching the various Axanar "marines" flail about on the I Stand with CBS FB group it is easy to see that as a whole the diehard AP fans aren't all that bright.
