CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Oh
Getting rid of the buttons and switches does make sense from a "realism" perspective. And if there had never been a TOS and we were creating Star Trek for the first time, that bridge design would be amazing. But TOS is canon and it makes this bridge with touch screens look "wrong".

I posted this in the FB group.... To me, this just makes for a better overall astetic, that keeps the "Spirit" of the TOS bridge, while modernizing it into something that looks like an actual control center....

I agree--it IS a beautiful set and the touch screens don't bother me. It takes the feel of TOS and just updates what isn't really realistic anymore. Who ever designed that did an awesome job in my opinion.

I think they're doing beautiful work out there. That is not the problem.

I rewatched Prelude To Axanar last evening - never watched it on big screen before - and was struck again by how marvelous the technical work on it is. It's held together entirely by the effects. Other than that, it's a number of professional actors and one amateur sitting in front of green screens doing their best with a script that's drivel - a lot of hollow, chest-beating exposition.

Hertzler does by far the best job with his part. Graham's seems to be a reading performance; I like the actor a lot in other things I've seen (including playing the same character, on Enterprise) but he's pretty flat here. Peters is not interesting.

PRELUDE is very pretty. It looks impressive. And the documentary-style is a welcome change of format. But as I've said before, it's all style and no substance.

I actually like how the Federation Historical Society manages to get a sit-down interview with Kharn during what would have been the "Cold War" with the Klingon Empire.... I mean, that seems plausible.....

I tend to think that a crew who could go that far with it, at least had the potential to make a watchable movie. Perhaps not ST:VI or anything, but then, this is a fan film.

Well, today it's a fan film... :sigh:

Not really a big deal. Maybe he fell out of favor and was no longer living in the Empire? Been a while since I watched "Prelude...".

The format is absolutely what makes it work. The visuals are great. Other than that, its same old stuff we've seen over and over again, including into the JJ films.

I saw that clip a while back. It is very cool. Do you know if there is any more of it or was that just a proof of concept?

The general consensus, is that the full film will not be allowed to be filmed?

Fair bet, IMO.

Only way I can see it getting made is if they manage to get the important bits of the trial delayed long enough for them to finish it before the hammer truly gets dropped. Given the request for an injunction though, I think that's unlikely; I can't see that not getting granted.

I don't see a scenario in which it is allowed to go forward.

CBS should buy the warehouse where Ares Studios is located. It is a sitcom that writes itself!

I am just going to come out and say it... It looks crappy. Sorry, I know some will disagree, but if you're "Improving" on TOS by eliminating the switches and buttons, then why even replicate the style design from the 1960's... say what you will about Enterprise (which I personally didn't care for from a story telling perspective) At least they had a good bridge design...
Also, why 6 stations?

Oh and people give JJ grief about lens flare...

I dunno I do like it... I agree with you with Enterprise as I love the set design on that show, even more when they repainted in the 4th Season.

I do like where they are going with their bridge though, bit of a mix of design styles and while the fate of the project is in the hands of the lawyers I am enjoying seeing what I liked about the design of the production come to life.

Oh

I had forgotten about that video, always liked that reimagining.

I think it looks cool. I'm no expert, but couldn't the same effect be achieved far more cheaply the way TNG/DS9/VOY did their consoles, with backlit transparencies instead of actual monitors?

Weren't they also bragging about having custom laser cut acrylic for their transporter pads?
This has not been a budget conscious production.

Prelude was very pretty, and as a short I thought it brought an interesting component to Trek. Maybe the sizzle was greater than the steak? It was a proof of concept and I enjoyed it.
