CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Also to be fair, Inception is a far more complex concept than Axanar ever was.
Given that you're comparing an outdated amateur script to a script written by a professional director that had 2 to 3 years more time in development, I'm not sure how fair you're actually being. Don't get me wrong, I'd be mildly surprised if Alec ever releases an Axanar film, even a 15 minute one. I just don't understand why anyone would feel the need to tilt the scales against Alec when he's already so effectively sabotaged himself.
My vocabulary word for the day. ;)

Wow, we've released 55 of our productions in that same amount of time. Of course, we're in it to have fun rather than the lucre.
I'd humbly suggest that even if you'd gone for feature-length films with industry-standard production quality and special effects; but with the same dedication and perseverance you'd still have more to show than Poor Alec Peters

Lucre or, in the holiday season, gelt.

Also to be fair, you started the comparison by bringing up Inception in the first place. I just took it to it’s logical conclusion.

The point being: Inception took awhile because it was complicated. Axanar is a fairly straightforward script. Most amateur screenwriters would have at least written three Axanar-esque scripts in that time.

Alec has to be writing his script using Professor Harold Hill’s think system.

Actually, you didn't. My point was that taking a long time doesn't make your script good OR bad. I was replying to a message that talked about how the time he was taking indicated that it would be a bad script, and my counter point was that Inception took a long time, and it was a good script, therefore time doesn't actually determine the quality of the script. You then took the position that time should have made the script better, which was basically the polar opposite of the original position I was replying to.

I agree that shorter scripts should take less time, but I fail to see how being an amateur would make you a faster writer. If you're an amateur who plans to make something for public consumption, wouldn't you take your time to get it right?

I'm trying to finish a roughly 120 page script before my Christmas vacation, so I can hardly hold Alec to a lesser standard, though. (I think I'm up to 92 pages, counting outlining notes.) Seeing as he has a massive head start, let's see if I can produce a final draft before him. ;)
I thought he was using Notepad?
People knock Notepad, but I use it all the time. It's simple, loads fast, takes up little memory, and it's really useful when you want to copy only the text from something and not the formatting. Notepad++ is pretty cool, but it has an everything-and-the-kitchen-sink mentality that I don't care for. I kinda just want Notepad with tabs, a slightly better Find/Replace and maybe spellcheck.

Not that you'd want to use it for scripts. I'm using Google Docs, and I can barely stand it, but at least it's easily accessible from the library or work. I think I'll switch to Celtx or some other form of screenwriting software after I'm done with the rough draft.

notepad++ can do plain text just fine, can support dozens if not hundreds of simultaneously open tabs, can search across the tabs, and its greatest benefit over notepad is you can set it to autosave changed tabs even down to each few seconds. if your machine hangs, you don't lose your work as you would if you were opening a bunch of notepads.

FUNDRAISING UPDATE

Now that we are closer to having a revised and locked script, and we are well into pre-production, we are planning our next (and hopefully last!) fundraiser. As you know, the lawsuit with CBS and Paramount drained our coffers of both funds raised from fans and over $100,000 of money Alec personally put into this project to keep it going.

In 2014, we raised $101,000 for The Four Years War, Part III, Prelude to Axanar, which was 20 minutes long. Since we are now making two more episodes, with a total length of 30 minutes, we are hoping to raise $150,000. After we finish these two episodes, we will have everything we need to then fulfill all the donor perks from all 3 campaigns.

Stay tuned for future Donor Updates to give you more details on our fundraising plans.

Interesting how it’s now called “The Four Years War, Part III, Prelude to Axanar.”

Sounds a lot like another multipart space operaish saga we all know...
