LAS VEGAS — In an unprecedented move, CBS has granted a license to Star Trek New Voyages leader James Cawley to produce fan films through a new Star Trek Film Academy.

I don't think it effects them at all. They have wrapped up. I don't see them paying to go film anything at Cawley's Academy. Really I don't see how this helps any of the established fan films. It does show that you MAY be able to negotiate with the licensing dept.
I tend to think that CBS has found the entity it wants to deal with. You can make your fan film on your own, but if you want to have real live Trek alums involved, call 1-800-CAWLEY.
STC has wrapped. They're done producing new TOS-era Trek.
What's next? To quote Doc Brown, "the future hasn't been written yet."

When a good money manager could have taken that $1.7 whatever million dollar donor cash, generated on the plus side of $15 grand a month income, washed from any IP donor money and had a management monthy check plus a good $10 grand a month to fund his studio Forever, Yeah I'd say there is An Inconvenient Truth in there.
