CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Given the time frame i'm just not seeing a way to deal with the Romulans. They're hiding behind their boarders.

Didn't see much of anything news-wise this week, except Alec Peters was "attacked" by both James Cawley and John Broughton regarding whether or not Alec, as an unpaid volunteer, was actually "working" for CBS as the Star Trek Archivist. Other than that, things are awfully quiet, and I always thought that meant that things were happening behind the scenes...

Meanwhile at the corporate level it reads like thermal nuclear war as Viacom is in panic mode over the direction Paramount has taken. I don't care if people are for or against creating more content in Global acceptable formats to capture the Chinese viewer, it's simply not working at the local box office.

Stumbled upon a twitter exchange initiated by one of Lord Alec's acolytes who bought into the whole "CBS is ripping off Axanar with Star Trek: Discovery!" myth, hook, line and sinker.......(these are almost cookie cutter by now)

I chuckled at the obvious BS inherent in such a myth (that Carlos did an excellent job of refuting), then stumbled upon this random post by @Tampaxanar (yes, I know, it's been a slow news week)...........

To be honest, I would be thrilled if Discovery treated with Romulans in any way. I've had enough of Klingons for a while.

With a name like Discovery, they had better have some new aliens if they want to meet the expectations they have created.

Guess that's a bit of a bind, given 'the future' of that timeline has laid out who is around.

"The" is part of the issue. There was an employed Archivist, but apparently the title was also granted to volunteers who worked in some way on some part or other of the assets. Certainly Alec freely bandied about being 'the' Archivist in what I have seen, but a the same time I seem to recall him being interviewed where he said it was in relationship to the assets of the Experience only, and as a volunteer.

Its looks pretty much the same as Axanar Productions "is" nonprofit. No one in the world is permitted to bring their interpretation to anything said by Axanar. Only the word definitions held privately by Axanar count.

It seems possible Paramount could need Chinese government pre-approval of movie content if Paramount were to bind themselves to Chinese companies.

Sorry, think I'm missing something here. What are these 2 ships and their origins? I haven't paid a lot of attention to the JJ movies, and all I know about Axanar is the Ares, which, admittedly, is a gorgeous ship, that I truly like much more then the Discovery.

Oh for Wesley's sake...

Alec rejects any settlement offer, and then attempts to portray the delay as being indicative of possible success. What a maroon.

One on the left is from Star Trek 2009 the one on the right a rescaled, re-detailed (here and there, I don't see much comparing shots of Tobais' Kelvin and Axanar renders of these ships) version of the same basic design with the main change being the design of the nacelles being more TOS.

I know people give Axanar and Tobias alot of flak including these with the larger discussion of infringement (and I am not going to discuss that) but I think he did a really good job in melding the Church elements with the Jefferies inspired ones and to me is a testament to how well thought out the Kelvin based ships were even if the size is a little off to sit in the Prime pre TOS timeframe.

If CBS did something similar with the basic designs for background ships in Discovery I wouldn't bat an eye lid as long as something close to some of the FJ designs get a look in for background ships too.
