CBS' "Flashpoint", Fridays 10pm.

..... and yet another gruff black CO. Nothing against skin color here, but is there some unspoken rule that 'realistic' cop shows have a hugely disproportionate percentage of gruff black COs who bark orders and occassionally reveal sparks of humanity? That shit is spoofed for a reason.

Having ranted all that...I give it a B...

...kidding. It fails - F

Its called the Hollywood Chapter of the NAACP. A Black person has to be a main cast member and not in "Huggy Bear/Player" role. That means junior partner like Miami Vice or the boss. I think McCloud did beat Starsky and Hutch in the Black boss race though. Maybe Barretta beat it too.

I wonder if there was an actual female sniper on the ripped from the headlines incident this episode was inspired by. Or is this another example of a newer cliche, that of the supermodel who is a special operations soldier/cop/spy.

Watched the last two episodes and I think this is basically what I'm looking for in a cop show. I mean, not every show can be The Shield or The Wire and on conventional TV, cop shows are pretty much limited to the boring Law and Order series or CSI. There was a new SWAT that made it to pilot stage, but it didn't go to series... so this is basically it, until someone decides to do NYPD Blue Two sometime down the line.

Anyway, enough action and procedure, no matter how inaccurate, to be moderately entertaining. I kind of expect CTV to pick this up since they don't really have anything else, but I'm curious to see if CBS will order more episodes after this batch.

Who know's? It doesn't strike me as a keeper. But it is better then filling holes in the lineup with repeats of the various CSI's. I don't know if it is good or bad news but CBS moved it to Thursday's at 10.

Ah, that would explain why it's appearing earlier online.
Maybe it'll become a summer show. CTV needs to keep this around as an obligation to regulators if nothing else... and it must be cheaper to keep a show around rather than go around shopping for pilots.
Although, after CBC cancelled every new show this year, who knows.

I watched the Henry Czerny episode because I think he's a cool actor and he gets points for hooking up with Dana Delany. But I was extremely puzzled/baffled by how many times they could've shot him down and the excuses they gave for never doing it.

Yeah, it was a nice episode with the inevitable outcome. I kind of wish they'd do an episode where they are "right" in taking down a guy though.

Well, bumping an old thread but the last four episodes of the season were "leaked" or whatever. I think they're going to air in December in Canada, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, having watched the last batch of episodes, it's interesting to see that the pilot had lasting consequences on the show - from PTSD resulting from the shooting to the season finale itself.

Now, the finale is a bit contrived based on what happens, but I guess it works in terms of telling a complete story.

I'm still looking for a more action focused procedural (and The Unit just doesn't work anymore because it's set in a fantasy land) so I'm looking forward to the second season of the series until someone in the US decides to remake SWAT.

I finally got a chance to watch it and I think it's a little boring to be honest.

Partially because CBS uses every second a cop has a gun in his hand for the ads but then the show drags on like a real time, a la 24, as opposed to TV time dramatisation of SWAT activities.

In a bit of thread necrophilia, I wanted to check if anyone caught the season premiere? They gamechanged the show in a way that I wish "real" shows like NCIS could do. They really swung for the fences... and if you were marginally interested in this show, you should try to catch up on this one.

Yup, I watched it. Honestly, I was half-expecting the ending, but still, when it happened...

And I don't think you're going to get many people from the US chiming in, because the new season started only in Canada last night. CBS is going to be doing the new episodes later.

Hrm, yeah, that makes sense. Oh well, hopefully people will still watch it whenever it comes back on.

Honestly, I was surprised because TV usually finds some kind of cop-out for this stuff. Maybe the mine was a dud or that water transfer thing works. It's how most shows would handle this stuff, especially with a "named" character.

:confused::confused::confused:

I'm majorly confused. I didn't see Flashpoint listed anywhere last night but you're telling me the season premier was last night?

It was in Canada (on CTV), but apparently CBS isn't airing new episodes until later (Wikipedia says mid-season 2010).

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that CBS hasn't aired it yet... If it doesn't start next year, I'm sure they'll slot it in when the casualties start happening in a few weeks.
