LOS ANGELES - CBS is moving aggressively to shake up its 2010-11 season, canceling "Cold Case," "Ghost Whisperer" and five other series.

According to a person familiar with the changes, other canceled shows include "Numb3rs," "The New Adventures of Old Christine," "Gary Unmarried," "Miami Medical" and "Accidentally on Purpose." The person, who wasn't authorized to discuss the changes publicly, spoke on condition of anonymity.

The wholesale axings came as a surprise, given the respectable ratings earned by some of the shows and CBS' standing as the most-watched network.

The cancellations will clear shelf space for newcomers, including William Shatner's first sitcom, a police drama with Tom Selleck and other shows to be officially announced Wednesday by CBS.

Interesting. I mostly don't care because I don't watch any of those shows. But my mother will be disappointed about Cold Case. (She loves Tracie Thoms; always has ever since Wonderfalls & Rent.)

The concepts "William Shatner" and "sitcom" together in one sentence... :guffaw: This is either gonna be epic WIN or epic FAIL. Either way it will be epic.

Good. Clean house. I want them to pick up Chaos and that medical show with Skeet Ulrich.

A bit of news. The more free slots, the better!

As for the two dramas remaining, Chaos and the untitled John Wells-produced medical drama, they both seem to be still alive though there have been a lot of mixed signals on Chaos today.

Ah, CBS making room for the new Star Trek series! .. Ok maybe not but we can always dream. LOL

Wasn't Ghost Whisperer a hit for a Friday show? And it's not like they spend a lot of money on the show. They reuse the Universal set over and over again from the previews I've seen (I've never actually watched an episode so maybe I'm wrong).

Who loses money for Cold Case not being on DVD (music rights)?

My daughter is gonna be bummed about Ghost Whisperer. Guess we'll never find out about the shinies and shadows. :(

I would have thought Ghost Whisperer was a hit considering it's pretty much all they ever show on ION. (Everything else on ION is reruns of Criminal Minds & NCIS, infomercials, & televangelists.)

Numb3rs ended properly at least and for what it's worth, Old Christine is half financed by ABC so they'll pick it up.

I kind of enjoyed Old Christine and Gary Unamarried.

I also was under the impression Ghost Whisperer was doing well.

Odd changes.

I loved NUMB3RS. It was a very well done show, especially the relationships between the father and brothers. I really enjoyed it.

But as was mentioned earlier, it was evident that they knew what was coming. The season finale could have easily passed for a series finale, and now I suppose it did. At least it had some kind of satisfying ending.

I think its time networks and writers/producers start to actually think of ways to ends there shows I look at how many long running shows have been ended this week with no resolution from what I gather...

People spend years getting invested into a story and when you get nothing at the end of it its just a huge slap in the face. If your show has been going for 5 years or more and you have no endgame planned incase of being canned then I feel its a poor showing from writers.
