CBS All Access orders three new original series

Looks like CBS All Access is adding a little meat to their roster of original series. http://www.tvguide.com/news/cbs-all-access-will-ferrell-adam-mckay/

Glad to hear it. One of the more common criticisms I've read about CBS All Access and Star Trek: Discovery goes something like, "Sorry! I'm not paying just to watch one show!" I totally understand, but now that we know CBS All Access is committed to having a number of original shows, I wonder if that perception will change? All three of those shows seem like something I would be willing to give a chance.

I still think CBS All Access would do good by adding Showtime's back catalog (CBS owns Showtime), and certain titles from CBS Films, but that's neither here or there, I suppose. (And probably subject to streaming rights I don't understand.)

EDIT: I just remembered that there's a CBS All Access thread, so if this needs to be moved there, make it so. Sorry about that.

Huh. That $1 show looks kinda gimmicky, but I'd be interested to see a Will Ferrell and Adam McKay comedy. Also that Jack Parsons Golden Dawn Aleistser Crowley idea looks....crazy, but very interesting.

I don't think it's quite enough just yet, but it's getting there. 5-10 original shows, a bit more of their back catalog, and maybe some films, and more people could be convinced.

For example, where is the 80s Twilight Zone series? MASH? How I Met Your Mother? Northern Exposure? Murphy Brown? Newhart? The Munsters? Lots of big gaps even in their TV catalog, some of their most popular shows all time are conspicuously absent. Maybe there are rights issues, but if they can't even get their most popular series streaming, it doesn't bode well.

CBS also needs to see about getting more films. For example, can they get all the Trek films, including the JJ movies? Could they perhaps partner with Paramount to stream some of their film catalog?

It wouldn't be as easy, since most of this would require working with others, but right now, I understand people's complaints that there's not enough there to justify the extra charge to their monthly bill. I'm happy to pay an extra $6 because I love Trek, but I totally get the gripe.

If I were CBS, this should be the priority. They have every Trek show, and they ought to have every Trek film. CBS could market themselves as the go-to service if you want every Trek show and film at your disposal.

Already a subscriber...so nothing but better and better news as far as I'm concerned.
Me too! I was a subscriber just before the Discovery announcement, because it had Mission: Impossible and some Twilight Zone episodes that were not on Netflix, as well as another way to watch any Trek series.

I really enjoy CBS All Access anyway, and I like they're adding more programming!

Will it have The Big Bang Theory?
BBT is actually produced & owned by Warner Bros. Series not owned by the network/parent company usually don't show up on that network's website and/or streaming services, as the studios tend to withhold internet rights in favor of selling them in separate deals. Or saving them for tneir own streaming ventures.

I never saw a problem with this being a mandatory subscription, I'm glad there's another app now with stuff to watch on, what's $10 a month? I just paid more for just one season of Turn.

I'm pretty sure, that if it belongs to CBS and it's not there, the reason is rights issues. For example, "House of cards" started, before Netflix came to Germany. So they sold the rights to German pay tv channel "Sky" and it's streaming service "Sky go" and are now biting their own a$$ every time a new season starts and they have to wait a year or so to show their own show on their own service...

I can't remember where I read it, but I do know that starting this fall, all episodes to current CBS shows that are actually produced by CBS will be on All Access, and not just the last five, or whatever they've done in the past.

$10 if you want the ad-free option. I just pay $5.99 for the ad option because it's not something that bothers me.

I am feeling, that when $6 million is being spent per episode of Discovery, CBS Access should have been more than a repository of CBS shows. It feels that CBS is hoping to get a slice of the streaming pie. This is a dicey proposition in an increasingly crowded field.

To put this in perspective, according to one source (https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/most-expensive-tv-shows-ever.html/?a=viewall), Game of Thrones costs $6 million per episode. This is a show on a well-established network.

Mash should be there. It was on Netflix for less than a year before being removed because CBS wanted it for themselves, then never did anything with it.

I'd pay for MASH and Murphy Brown.

I just looked it up and MASH (at least the classic 70's/80's series is owned by FOX. And Murphy Brown is Warner.

But I remember up here in Canada between 2014 and 2016 with Showtime, shows made before a certain year were on one streaming service, while shows made after were on another.
