News CBS AA talks future of Star Trek, will announce more series

Interesting points from that interview.

1. They're considering spin-offs from Disco including a Mudd series and a Michelle Yeoh series.
2. They're not considering a new show based on any other previous Trek series only the Picard show.

I cant' see a DS9/Voyager/Enterprise spin off doing well.

Also 'never say never' to Bill Shatner, but they want to put out a ton of new Trek over the next few years.

Exciting

Well, the quote that:
“My goal is that there should be a Star Trek something on all the time on All Access,”
really perks me up. I'm in the UK, so I can get Disco on Netflix and I've really felt for US audiences without that option.

But if this happens and CBSAA expands this far , I'd likely sign up for that.

It's great that CBS has finally seen the light, where STAR TREK is concerned. Every series should have its own flavour. As long as that happens, STAR TREK should do alright. I have great admiration for Rick Berman's notable accomplishment of keeping STAR TREK on the air for 20 years. He's still one of the very rare people involved with the franchise whom I'd like to meet, in person. But STAR TREK has passed the torch, as it were, and it's fresher ... more vibrant ... and the possibilities seem endless. I hope that the Artistry, experimentation and efforts at being cutting edge continue with this franchise, now that it's got its second wind. Entertainment News posting headlines calling these franchise offerings "The Best in Television" ... nothing would be more satisfying.

A new news article has been published at TrekToday:

CBS All Access is growing and Star Trek is and will continue to be an important part of that growth. There are...

I have the typical concerns with news like this. Instead of addressing them in turn, I will only say, may the new shows be successful.

How about a Captain Pike on the USS Enterprise series? I'd definitely be up for that one.

Fan films have a Captain Pike fan film and two Robert April films. It's too bad that fans are doing a far better job than Hollywood is doing.
GET RID OF BAD ROBOT! They have no vision. Neither does Kirsten Beyer. Sorry, I'm in a bad mood.

What does Bad Robot have to do with anything?

Is there room for vision anymore?

Actually, "Beyond" did rather a decent job compared to the previous two, for which even Into Darkness had moments and potential... BR isn't the core problem. People who think that taking Trek characters and scenes and remaking them as homage is. Think the formula of "The Brady Bunch Movie" from the 1990s now applied to serious sci-fi and Trek2009 and Into Darkness personify those way too perfectly.

Does that include people who subscribe for the free weeks then cancel when the freebies are done but are kept to inflate the values? There are different tiers as I recall, $6 for basic access that still has commercials and $10 for the ad-free version. Since most products we buy are the sponsors that subsidize all this, anyone paying $10 is better off finding a toilet to drop the extra monthly money into.

I'm impressed Trek is the main reason behind the growth.

But if DSC/DIS/STD/etc costs $8 mil per episode, all these other series may not look as lush?

I enjoyed the Brady Bunch Movie a lot more than Into Darkness.
