CBS “reimagining” After Trek for season 2

Since Disco films in Toronto, New York is probably much easier for the actors to make back and forth trips to than LA would be. Especially since New York is in the same time zone as Toronto.

Though when the episodes air, I would imagine most of the cast have already gone back to L.A. for the between-season hiatus (weren't they almost finished filming the entire season when it premiered?) so L.A. might be more convenient for most of the cast.

That being said, CTV just cancelled InnerSPACE a couple of weeks ago, which - for the benefit of non-Canadians in the thread - was a nightly magazine show on the Space Channel about all aspects of science fiction media. The three hosts are all extremely knowledgeable about the genre, so if CBS wanted to go in a different direction with After Trek, they could do a lot worse than to hire the InnerSPACE people.

They also had occasional shows similar to After Trek - they had one after every episode of Orphan Black, called After The Black (hm, I wonder if that's where CBS got the idea for the name of the Discovery after-show... ;) ), plus they did a number of online-only episodes. Here's a sample:

They also did one for Bitten, the vampire show based on the novels by Kelley Armstrong:

Of course in theory one doesn't even need the show. I mean you can get the same thing from Collider or Screenjunkies and maybe even Afterbuzz.

IIRC, the finale filmed the week the premiere aired. Indeed, when the cast appeared on After Trek's premiere on September 24, they said they would begin filming the finale "tomorrow."

The format was ok, from what I saw, but I only watched the first episode of After Taste I mean After Trek. I don't like being this negative, especially as he is a fan and might read here, but the host probably has a better career calling doing, well, anything else.

Having watched all of 'After Trek', yes, the first handful of episodes were a bit cringe worthy. Matt was annoying and coming across as a complete Fan Boy. I'd say about mid season, he had calmed down and the show became much better for it. I'm not sure what they (TPTB) feel the need to re-tool, but I doubt they're going to get Chris Hardwick to do the show. All IMHO

At the rate TWD is going down the crapper and losing stars, it might not be THAT bad of an idea.

I was actually surprised to learn that the people who make AfterTrek are the same who make Talking Dead. I don't know what this reimagining will entail, but leaning more towards the quality of TD would not be unwelcome. They can trash some of the cheesier aspects too, like the cringeworthy "Red Alert!" thing at the end (is the audience made up of 6 year olds?).

I'm still bummed about InnerSPACE, so I would certainly be open to seeing Morgan & Teddy and/or Ajay taking part in a rebooted AfterTrek.

Matt Mira is fine. I think he was just nervous and maybe not used to being in front of the camera for the first few shows. But he calmed down and became more confident towards the middle of the first season. However I second, the notion made by @USS Triumphant to have Mary Chieffo co-host with him.

I'd rather they keep Matt, and add Mary Chieffo
What about keeping Matt and adding Andrew Secunda? They've got great chemistry. He could add a "Still a geek but not all that knowledgeable about Trek" to ask the questions that less informed fans might ask. It's part of the audience that CBS is trying to garner.

I doubt the showrunner for The Goldbergs would let another of his writers take a side gig that eats up a lot of time.
