CBS “reimagining” After Trek for season 2

Looks like TPTB are going to revamp AT for next season. I thought the show had a very rough start but rounded into something pretty interesting as the season went on.

Matt (what’s his name) was the reason for the slow start, IMO, but I thought he got it together late in the season. He has a real good grasp of Trek lore and was pretty quick witted. I liked the show a lot in the end. Hope they don’t screw it up.

It kinda bummed me out when I learned it wasn't live. I really like seeing the actors outside of the show.

I kind of stopped watching After Trek later in the season. These kind of shows have to be watched straight after the episode. There is really no point in watching them 2-3 days after the episode. By that time all the significant info revealed in the episode have been discussed many times and all the trailers and clips are found elsewhere.

So I hope that whatever after show they create for the second season will be released in Netflix on the same day as the actual episode. Not couple days later.

I liked AT, if for anything it gave you a lot of information about some of the story development process and let you in on what the thinking was behind a great many story and character decisions.

That's kinda a no-brainer. CBS did not know this for season one?

I hope it is something that is a little more high brow personally. More focus on the behind the scenes work, and discussion of the themes employed in the episodes.

I agree. It was a little slap-happy silly at times.

I don't know if CBS had anything to do with it. Netflix probably decided the actual release schedule outside USA and Canada. And it was kind of all over the place. When the actual DSC episode was always released on Monday morning the After Trek was released on anywhere from late Monday to early Thursday. Depending on the Netflix region.

I contacted Netflix support multiple times and they really didn't know anything.

I'd certainly miss after Trek if it wasn't there, but there is definitely room for improving the format. After Trek was probably played a significant part in my never deciding to "bank" an episode for the next week.

I was always able to watch it immediately in the UK. It really does seem strange that they varied it by region.

They were live for a first few episodes, but they decided to pre-record them later on so they could be released on-demand immediately.

Even then they were still recorded the same day as the episode aired I believe.

I feel bad for the host. He eventually got his act together, but not before the initial cringey enthusiasm turned many viewers off. I think it did kind of underline that it's good to have a host that knows Trek a lot, but being a fan is sometimes not enough. Personally, I think they should have given it to the Mission Log podcast guys, but they might be a little too critical for CBS's needs.

Good point. If I didn't catch After Trek that night, I didn't bother watching it. I was making a full-time effort at keeping up with the Trek.fm podcasts that were commenting on each episode. That was insane: they were basically dropping a different sub-podcast episode every night, or almost every week night. They had two live ones, including one with the Mission Log guys, a viewer mail one, one specifically devoted to continuity and easter eggs (a must for anyone claiming the show is fast and loose with "canon") and a commentary track for each episode.

I didn't watch it either if I didn't catch it that night. Usually I just watched the beginning or first half anyway. I think I only watched a full After Trek once or twice.
