I can't determine why some people insist number 2 is Hobbes. While it's possible the character may be someone else, it far more closely resembles "Krazy Kat" from the old "Ignatz" comics and cartoons.

True, "Krazy" as depicted in the strip samples is shaded darker, but the character did evolve over the decades. the bolder shading gave way to thinner, more stylized lines. If nothing else, Hobbes certainly never had a pale noses shaped like a cigar.

Krazy was my first instinct and I did an image search last night and the ears helped really sell it for me, they're pretty distinctive.
