Normal memories, maybe not, but traumatic ones?

I'm with you on this one.

I remember burning my finger on an iron in my parent's first house. I also remember my mom taking me to see our new house, and then two memories from the day my brother was born.

All happened before I was three.

I couldn't tell you my next clear memory, it was probably years later, but major events certainly stuck with me. And I don't have too much trouble believing it could have happenend here too.

Hence the constant firefly references. For non firefly fans. Was the in jokes too much?

No. I just figure when a joke "falls flat" (which is very rare on this show), that's it's a Firefly reference and some folks elsewhere are laughing hysterically, and I move on. Fortunately, there's usually enough non-FF humor to make the bit work on its own level.

The only other Firefly reference (that wasn't a joke, BTW) that I'm aware of is Castle saying something about "hands of blue" earlier this season.

If a joke fails, that can't be blamed on the writers trying to appeal to Firefly's fandom. :)

I said it succeeds on other levels even if the FF reference fails. Which makes it GOOD writing.

I loved the references, even if I was never a Buffy fan. The episode itself was interesting and I enjoyed the humor in this one quite a bit. I am also glad that the egg being crushed was not done in some corny way as it gave Alexis' being upset about it a more realistic feel to me, instead of just some corny trying to fix things by Castle, it was a real emotional moment. This show is really starting to come into it's own now and I'm glad to see Mr. Fillion in a show that might actually last for a few years.

did anybody see the shout out to the Firfely catalyst thingy? I read about it Nathan's tweet.

NO! Please share! I've been looking for the second easter egg all week and haven't found it!

ETA: Here's Nathan's twitter:
Look closely, when Mal comes out the door- under the gun, under the boat, just to the right. It's a nothin' part, till ya need one.
I would NEVER have seen it. It goes by so fast and it's so small, but sure as the world, there it is in plain sight.

Another tweet:
How did the catalyzer come to my possesion? I got it the same way Mal would. I stole it.
That bad boy!

What's with the tight leather gloves in that shot? Did Mal wear those too? I don't recall...

You know, it was really good seeing him in the Mal Reynolds costume again. And I think that line about "Hey, I LIKE it!" had more truth in it than just a line in this week's script. I don't think Nathan Fillion is over Mal Reynolds just yet. Alot of actors get tired of particular characters they play after a while....but the vibe from him was that he is DEFINITELY not tired of Mal.

I wish he'd stayed in the Mal get-up longer or worn it at the party. Because regardless of any further Firefly references, he looks like such a badass in that!

^While I agree, I thought he was rather adorable as Poe with his pet raven. It did take me a while to figure out who he was though. At first I was thinking Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice, until I saw the raven. Frankly, having him dress as a famous writer was kinda clever, I thought. :D

Plus dressing as Poe was the set up for the 'giving you the bird' joke with Beckett.

This show is great fun. My wife and I really enjoy it.

Of course, this episode gets an "excellent" for the Firefly reference.

:techman:

Browncoats live!!

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the comics reference. I don't remember the details because I'm not a comics fan, but the fact that Beckett knew that the artist Castle mentioned had acknowledged "periods" of work was a cute little scene.

:D

Right. They were talking about Frank Miller.

(Not sure I buy Beckett as a comic book fan, though.)

I think there's more to beautiful Det. Kate than meets the eye. The tough girl thing might be overcompensating. Have we seen her apartment yet?

I think there are certain shoes where the writers and the actors just get each other. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Nathan had a leeway with that scene.
