And I just bet that the page number/word count code in the episode actually works with the book.

I'm sure it does. I actually got into Castle because my sister got me the book for Christmas. I decided I'd only read it once I got to the point in the show when it was released, but I did peak a few episodes before that, when Beckett got the preview manuscript.

Sure enough, the sex scene started on page 105, just as advertised.

There are two authors quoted on the back cover giving glowing reviews, and I had the impression it was a collaberation between them. But I prefer to think Rick Castle wrote it...
I don't have a copy at hand, but I seem to recall that the glowing reviews were by Stephen J. Cannell and James Patterson, Castle's poker buddies from the series. :)

I'm sticking with my guess as to the real writer on the previous page. :)

Who wrote this episode? Because there was a reference to "the recapitator case" that was a major plot arc at the end of Medium's third season. So I'm wondering if one of the writers on Medium also wrote this one of Castle.

^You mean that was real? A plotline about a killer switching different people's heads? I thought that was just a throwaway joke, because it was just so ridiculous.

The episode was written by Castle's consulting producer Moira Kirland, who according to IMDb was a co-executive producer on Medium. Apparently she co-wrote an episode called "Head Games," which was the beginning of the arc about this "Recapitator" killer. So yes, your supposition is correct.

(Although technically the term should be "Transcapitator," if he's putting the heads on different bodies.)

Good episode! Best nitpicker part: when Castle bursts out of the FBI car to zap Pinky, the music riffs the "action guitar" thing he was singing in an earlier episode, which was then used as part of the music in the subsequent action scene. I think it's been heard since then too, but this instance had me smiling. :)

Fun episode - I'm looking forward to the conclusion (if only to see how Beckett deals with the immediate aftermath of her explosive shower scene ;)). I give it an "excellent."

Really compulsive nitpick: when they were using the high-tech 'glassboard,' I was sure they misspelled the description of the suspect. Watching it again tonight and freezing the frame, sure enough, it says, "Male cacausian."

Finally got to see this one and I loved it! I must say it was much more serious and suspenseful than I recall other episodes being and I liked that about it. I was actually surprised by the way it ended as I didn't catch that final clue on viewing it. Looking forward to next weeks episode, that's for sure.

I thought it was a brilliant little easter egg, because it does really sound ridiculous, and yet it was one of the best arcs Medium has done. I wish I could tell Ms. Kirland just how much hearing the reference tickled me. :D

Thanks for looking it up and saving my lazy self the trouble. That's just really cool.

You're right. And also, you think too much. ;)
