Castle and Beckett investigate the murder of a dead man found in a family's house that just returned from vacations. Meanwhile, Castle is elected as one of New York's 10 most eligible bachelors.

The "double date" scene was amusing, if a bit predictable. I like it that it was played not so much as "Castle and Beckett are in love" and more as "Castle and Beckett make a great crimesolving team."

Maybe there was a bit of meta-commentary on the show when the detectives treated Mickey the squatter's tale as a wild, unbelievable story. These guys never seem to get straightforward cases; even by the standards of most cop shows, their mysteries are extremely convoluted and bizarre.

I don't know much about South African accents, but the pet shop guy's accent sounded really fake.

Was it just me, or did Alexis seem to be behind a Castle/Beckett pairing? She seemed cheerful about the blurb in the paper, but was down about other women wanting to date her dad.

I realize part of that is embarrassment at having her father named a hottie in the paper and adult women responding to that.

I really think Alexis has bonded with Beckett on some levels, and would like to see her dad and Beckett together. Beckett is probably the best role model material her father has ever been involved with, and she's like to see it continue.

I think situation with them is a lot like booth and Bones. They're already in a relationship, but don't want to admit it to themselves or each other. Everyone else sees that complement each other perfectly.

^Yes, but they complement each other intellectually and professionally. Their relationship is as friends and partners, as a team. Romance isn't the only way two people can bond. The mentally based, problem-solving synergy they showed in the restaurant scene is a valid kind of relationship in itself, and I wouldn't like to see it treated merely as sublimation for love or lust. And I'm glad that this episode didn't treat it that way. The scene wasn't about them being jealous of each other's dates and really wanting to be together. It was about them being sexually interested in other people but being so caught up in their shared intellectual endeavor and their mutual workaholic nature that it overrode everything else.

Okay, maybe that does mean they couldn't be happy with anyone else, that they're so much on the same page that they're right for each other more than anyone else could be. But that's okay, so long as it comes from their friendship and partnership and shared interests and experiences, rather than just being a formula "They love each other but they're denying it" thing. In other words, I'd prefer to see their professional partnership presented as the basis for a romantic connection rather than being dismissed as merely a smokescreen for it. Because they really do make a good team.

Found it to be an enjoyable episode, I thought the "date" scene was humorous and it was an interesting case.

As far as Beckett and Castle are concerned, part of the problem is they're both stubborn and thick-headed about their relationship. I think Beckett is definitely attracted to Castle, but due to their working relationship and her own past she's unwilling to express it since doing so would reveal her vulnerability, which is something she doesn't want to do as she likes how she appears to her co-workers. Castle, on the other hand, has an image to uphold and between that, and being hesitant to become attached, tries to continue his bad boy image that he wants everyone to see.

Enjoyable episode to be sure. I wonder though, is it a bad thing that I was practically quoting the whole episode even before the dialog was spoken aloud?

I think Castle started out seeing Beckett as another beautiful conquest. But as their relationship has grown, he has dialed back the overt flirting and has developed a respect for her as a person and colleague. This is a new perspective for him when it comes to women, and I'm not sure he knows what to do with it. He's definitely taking it slow, though, which is a good thing. I liked that at the end, when they decided to go out for a burger together, Beckett was twirling her hair a little as they walked away. She's starting to relax her fear that he would see her as he started out treating her. I like the relationship they're developing, and I'd be fine with it growing into something romantic - or not. But the hair-twirl gave me a kind of, "Okay, I can't believe that this author I've adored for years is actually offering me his arm" vibe behind all her walls of professionalism. :D

I enjoyed this episode immensely. I loved the date scene as well as the ending..really cute. I think Beckett and Castle are both really cute together but if they did start sleeping together now, the sexual tension would be gone completely. Nathan Fillion is a hoot and everything I've seen him in thus far is great. :D Loved him in Serenity as well as the Firefly series.

This episode highlighted for me what is the show's greatest strength: the characters as portrayed by these actors. They blend well together in light fare that just plain makes me want to enjoy it all. The stories are amusing and entertaining, but it's the way Beckett works with Castle, Castle with Alexis and his mother, Beckett with her fellow detectives, any of them with their chief, and it goes on from there. This show wisely features Nathan Fillion but isn't completely devoted to him. He gets a large portion of screen time, but much is given to Stana Katic also. Andy why not? She's more than easy on the eyes.

One of the amusing little touches from this episodes was Beckett's tell of twirling her hair. Okay, so that was rather predictably so, but then at the end as she and Castle are walking out to go get some "real food", she's apparently twirling her hair again albeit on the side opposite from where Castle can see it.

I just have to say how much I adore Castle's daughter. She's one of the best thing about that show.

(special hell, special hell, special hell...)

Seriously, though. She's great.

(Special..)

ABC has ordered an addition two episodes for Castle, so you'll be getting 24 episodes this season.

There will also be a Sunday-Monday two-parter (March 21-22) guest starring Dana Delany as a federal agent.

Sweet. Hopefully this means the show's past the point of constantly being on the bubble and theatened with cancellation.

As for this week's episode, the main crime bordered on the ridiculously convoluted and the date scene was incredibly cheesy and predictable, but I still gave the episode an "above average" on the strength of the characters. As has been noted, their interactions are absolutely phenomenal.
