Spoiler: 2x15: "Suicide Squeeze"

Castle and Beckett will cross paths with the former Yankees skipper, Joe Torre while investigating the murder of a baseball star found dead after a trip to Cuba. Meanwhile, Alexis has a genealogy project that makes Castle consider the identity of his unknown father.

On a side note, photos of Stana Katic, 31, at the SAG Awards were incorrectly identified as Mischa Barton, now 24, by wire services:

This episode had the same problem that Law & Order often has -- namely, you can tell who the murderer is by the casting. I mean, if Ray Wise is in the episode, how could anyone else be the bad guy?

It was a decent enough episode, though. The mystery was not especially engaging, but there were good character bits and gags, like Beckett's geek-out moment meeting that Torre guy, Castle missing the baseball when it was tossed to him, and the like. And of course Alexis was glorious.

One thing that bugged me was the reference to Vega shaking Fidel Castro's hand a month ago. Fidel Castro retired from public life in 2006 and has only very rarely been seen in public since then. I'm not sure the visit of a baseball player would be a big enough event to get him back into the spotlight. They should've made it Raul Castro that shook Vega's hand.

Anyone know why Tamala Jones isn't in every episode, requiring Arye Gross to appear in a recurring role?

Also, what's up with rerun, new episode, rerun? That can't be a good idea.

I enjoyed the episode, even if the casting did make the ending a bit obvious. Can't really fault them for casting a 'good' bad guy actor in the role.

Of course, the real twist would be that Castle's father is somehow connected to Beckett's mother's murder.

Nah, I see Castle's dad being a con man they will go after some day. As a con man, he could be all the things Castle ever imagined him to be.

I hope we never find out more about Castle's dad. It would have too much of an effect on his mom and I love her just as she is.

Fun episode, but as other's have said, Ray Wise was pretty much a dead give away as the bad guy.

And I don't know about anyone else but I called it pretty early into the show that the ball player's "mistress" was actually his daughter. Seemed pretty predictable to me.

Indeed. Better, probably, to cast Wise as a sinister red herring--so that the audience will be surprised when he doesn't turn out to be the killer!

And I don't know about anyone else but I called it pretty early into the show that the ball player's "mistress" was actually his daughter. Seemed pretty predictable to me.

Well, I didn't pick up on either thing, though I wasn't terribly surprised to find out who the killer was. I didn't recognize the actor at all. and was quite suprised that the "mistress" was the daughter.

Course, I had no idea who Ray Wise is until I Wiki'd him after this thread, so that might have helped.

It's not just about being well-known. Ray Wise has a reputation for playing villains and twisted characters, and as Iasius mentioned, his most recent series-regular role was as Satan himself.
