Casting sheet for imaginary Cage crew remake TV series

One of the things that all of the Treks have done a poor job is depicting an enlisted group in Starfleet. The retconned the enlisted in with Lieutenant/Chief O'Brien.

Keeping Colt a Yeoman, having her have a predecessor and keeping Chief Pitcairn as an enlisted CPO would go a long way to correct this.

Bumping Colt to a Lieutenant and having her be the communications officer would just keep the attitude that the Trek runners really don't care much about depicting enlisted personnel.

One of the other things that all of the Treks have done a poor job is keeping to the established canon. As I indicated in a previous post, lots of things that became canon for certain with The Menagerie are still disregarded through out Star Trek. Things that are canon early in Trek cease being later in the original series (UESPA).

The retcon with the Hansens and the Borg on Voyager.

And then there's Star Trek:Enterprise.

I think there's a lot more freedom to tinker with what we saw in The Cage or The Menagerie that what we're allowing here, and still have it be in the Prime line.... and I don't see how a Pike series would really work in the new line. That's so goofy that I really only want to see future tales in the universe on the big screen as popcorn flicks, enjoying them for what they are, and not reconciling them with the original line.

Colt can still be on the show prior to Rigel. Where or as what I don't know. Women can be on the bridge. Number One can be black.

What about aliens? One of the critiques of Enterprise is that it was more of a TNG-verse prequel than a Star Trek prequel. What is the universe of Pike's time like? Is Spock unique as an alien in Starfleet? Are there Tellarites in Starfleet? Andorians? Or do they still have their own ships as part of the fleet?

What about the Klingons? Do things really heat up with them prior to Organia? What's the canon actually say about the Klingons? Or has this been disregarded and retconned too?

And now, you wonder why I want John Barrowman as Captain Pike. Trek fans have been swallowing big retcon pills for decades. Since the name of the drug on Torchwood was a tip of the hat to sci-fi programs and fans "retconning" the canon, might as well have the purveyor of that drug on your show.

I say start over. Pull a George Lucas and insert your show's footage into the next remastering of Star Trek. Perhaps the Mega-BlueRay+ Edition release of the show will have our new charaters in it.

Show us, without getting super Enterprise, TNG, Voyager silly, a good prequel. This could be what Enterprise was supposed to be.

But I hear what's been said about casting Barrowman. So, I'll try again...

Captain Christopher Pike -- David James Elliot
Number One -- Gina Torres
Spock -- Jerry Trainor (and he's really growing on me for the role)
Jose Tyler -- Bodie Olmos
Dr. Boyce -- Peter Firth

With
Sean Murray -- The Captain's First Yeoman
Analiese van der Pol -- Yeoman Colt
and
Rodger Bumpass -- Transporter Chief Pitcairn

See that's the problem.

The examples you list of Voyager and Enterprise retconning canon did nothing but divide the fanbase and draw it away.


I think it would be in the show's best interests to avoid retconning the Prime timeline.

There's plenty of actors out there that could do justice to these roles AND look the part of The Cage actors.

While I do agree it's possible Colt was on the crew prior to being Pike's Yeoman in "The Cage," there's really no rank lower than Yeoman.. unless she was a cadet onboard initially.


However, even though the rest of your cast picks don't match up visually with the Cage actors... there's a good choice.

David James Elliot as Pike would be cool, even though he's 50.

He's a better fit than Captain Jack.


I'm confused about one other choice though;

That 35 year old Bodie Olmos guy you want for Tyler looks more horse-faced and vulcan-like than your Spock choice.

Oh, and I also like your choice of Anneliese Van Der Pol.

But that maybe strongly due to what she has under that dress

Now I get why you want to retcon Colt into the cast.
