casting (done & rumors) so far

Yes to Quinto, Yelchin & McGillion. Saldana and Vogel aren't terrible options, but I'm being fussy (because I can :D) - we should have a more bodacious Uhura and I still want Eion Bailey for Kirk. Who knows whether he'd even take the role, but I'm holding out hope till the bitter end.

You should have an indifferent option because I don't know the actors cast and rumored for Kirk, Scotty, and Chekov.

Zachary Quinto as Spock - Totally.
Mike Vogel as Kirk - Eh?
Zoe Saldana as Uhura - Cool.
Anton Yelchin as Chekov - Sure.
Paul McGillion as Scotty - Absolutely.

Not sure about Kirk yet but I'll go with the others as:

a) Quinto is a great chice

&

b) I can't see the others having major roles. I'm sure with time I could get onbaord with this Vogel fella, but I'm not quite feeling it yet.

Evans! :D

Yes on everyone except Vogel. I didn't reply to that part of the poll since I don't have an opinion on him either way yet.

I'm sold on everyone except Vogel, he just looks too young and uncommanding in all the pics I've seen.

Zoe Saldana is too pale for a character thats meant to be full flooded african.

Uhura isnt from america.

If they are going to all the trouble of hiring real russians and real scots, they could at least try and get a real african.

I voted YES on Quinto, Saldana and McGillion(spelling)
however i feel also there scold be indifferent option too.
i didn't vote on Vogel and Yelchin but they look alright but haven't seen their works to give yes or no answer

I can only vote yes on Quinto and Saldana because I've seen their other work (love Heroes, love Pirates, love both of their other characters) and I think they're great choices.

Everyone else I'm indifferent about. They're unknowns to me.

I am totally yes to Quinto and McGillion. I voted yes for Saldana and Yelchin, though honestly I don't care at this stage. Vogel...hmmmm I had to go with no until I see something that can convince me otherwise. He just doesn't strike me yet.

Can't say I'm familiar with the work of any of them (except McGillion obviously), but at least visually, Quinto seems a good choice. McGillion would be an excellent choice, though, in my opinion.
Never even realised Mike Vogel (Who I've never heard of) was up for Kirk - guess I've been out of the loop there :o

You can't seriously be saying that she isn't black enough. There are white people in Africa too and, you may find this difficult, but white and black Africans do have sex and produce bi-racial children.

Welcome to the 23rd century...

There's no requirement that what you say make sense, after all.

Nichols, of course, is of both European and African ancestry and does not look at all like most of the people from the area of the world that "Uhura" supposedly comes from. The producers have a choice of casting someone who resembles Nichols to some extent, or casting with the character's supposed ancestry in mind.

Very true, though Seldana seems a bit more "European" than Nichelle Nichols did at the same age.

I really wish that they'd gone ahead and used an African actress... I mean, an actual AFRICAN actress, not just someone with some African blood in their ancestry a bunch of generations ago. There are women out there who'd kill for the chance, and would make a really intriguing "more real" take on what a citizen of a United African States citizen would, hopefully, be like (ie, not just a So-Cal type with a fake "ethnic" name).

That said, I can live with this... especially since Uhura is one of the "second banana" characters (and since we have no real idea if she'll get even a single line of dialog... even so much as "hailing frequencies open, mother####er!" ;) )

I can't imagine a GOOD movie really focusing on more than two or three main characters... so if they're there, IMHO, either (1) we're not getting a very good movie, or (2) they'll be there as set-dressing to make a brief "TOS-era" sequence seem authentic.

I'm betting it's #2. That's consistent with info I came across months ago (ie, that the film takes place at a series of times thoughout the life of J.T.K. and is more about who he is and how he got that way than about any particular "galaxy-shattering crisis of the week" plot). I had suspected that they might just reuse "cleaned-up" clips from TOS... but this would work JUST FINE, too, I think.

Of course, it's possible that the whole film could be a plotless morass of "fanboy moments" where we get to find out the type of Underoos worn by Chekov, what Uhura's jewelry safe combination is, etc, etc... but I REALLY REALLY HOPE NOT.

That news just broke so you're not out of the loop much at all.

The actor potraying Kirk MUST have a more impressive name.

Like Shatner.

Say it with me...

ShhhhAT-NERRRRR.

Mike Vogel sounds like someone who ought to be in the accounting department. Absolutely unacceptable.
