Casting Call... Leslie Crusher

ALF

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
I was about to post in Phoenix Ireland's great thread about improving TNG
http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=80805
(one thing) and I felt maybe this should have it's own discussion.

What Roddenbery originally wanted for TNG.
Leslie Crusher instead of Wesley Crusher.

Can you imagine if Welsey was a hot girl? With no offence to Wil Weaton (and I don't mind Wes myself, in fact I do like him as a character) sometimes I wonder to what heights TNG would have achieved with a smart l'il acting Ensign vixen on the bridge!!

It certainly would have put a new spin on Beverly and Riker's relationship!!

And for the most part, you can imagine the plots and their devices being exactly the same. Leslie gets space drunk and builds a repulsor beam. Leslie is abducted by the residents of Aldea. Leslie falls in love with a male shapeshifter. Leslie saves Picard from death during a shuttle accident. Leslie serves as cheif tactical officer in an alternate reality. You get the idea.

Case in point, Justice, S1: "We're from starfleet. We don't lie." Imagine that line with Ashley Judd arching her back and sticking out her forward mounted buzzard collectors in a coy, sexy murmur. For some reason even that cringe-inducing bit of dialog seems perfectly acceptable.

No, nix Ashley. Let's see Scarlett Johnansen in the role. Oh, wait. She would have been way to young to take the role, wouldn't she? Is Alley Sheedy too old? Molly Ringwald? I guess the Brat Pack is too obvious.

Here's the challenge: It's 1987 and you have to cast a rising female star in the role of Acting Ensign Leslie Crusher.

Actually, I think Wil Weaton could have played the part as a male or female, he is that good of an actor...

But, if he was unavailable, I would have gone with Elizebeth Shue...

Rob

Ashley Judd. She played Ensign Robin Lefler (two episodes: "Darmok" and "The Game"). I'd have rather seen her as a regular at the navigation station than Wil Wheaton. She had the right blend of looking sweet and being passable as an officer. Scarlett Johansen would have been too "sex pot." The role has to be believable. And btw, have you seen later shots of Ashely? She can be a stunning looker, depending upon the makeup/clothes. ;)

I thought you meant you wanted to see Ashley Judd as Leslie Crusher's love interest? :p

I've got no problem with this either. We've gotta go back in time.

Apparently he hasn't got a problem with Ashley in an form of possible TNG re-write.

Ashley as a flower pot?

"I'd water that."

How 'bout Jaime Hubbard? I think she was pretty convincing in The Dauphin. She had the right age and seemed to be available at the time.

I was only 2 in 1987, so I have no idea what actresses would be available.

But if I had access to a time machine, I'd send Hillary Duff to play the part. :p

Wait a minute. Someone in Star Trek having a daughter besides O'Brain? Isn't that considered blasphemy in Star Trek?

Ashley Judd would've been alright, but here's a screwed up parallel universe for ya:

Stacy Ferguson as Acting Ensign Leslie Crusher

I'm imagining all the ways this would've changed TNG, and all the ways it might have changed Fergie, and the mind boggles.

Sorry could NOT resist

Yes very interesting,
Maybe Troi would not have been turned in eye candy for one thing.

Possibly it would have helped, there, but you have to remember that at the time, she wasn't "Fergilicious" yet - she was just Stacy Ferguson, one of the stars of Kids Incorporated who had done a couple of voice acting gigs providing the voice of Charlie Brown's little sister, Sally.

Ah You got my Peanuts reference,
Also she was in
Wild Orchid but that was not until 1991 when she was 16, It seems she also did a direct to video Horror/Comedy Monster in the Closet in 1986
