Cast each other's fanfic characters?

Ha, glad I'm not alone in the McDowell thing (no matter how bad it annoys Gibraltar)! ;)

On my own stories, I'm starting to think that Damian Wilson might be able to play Glinn Yejain. In fact, I think I can see the resemblance pretty strongly when I look at the drawing...

I try to cast everything I read in my head, but it doesn't always work. For instance, I keep having problems casting Joseph Akinola from Bluefin because my first instinct choice - Chiwitel Ejiofore - is too young, as I've realized from paying attention to TLR's descriptions. The best I can manage is an old Ejiofore. [shrug]

For now, I'll try a few from Gibraltar:

Captain Sandhurst - Clive Owen
(This was something G mentioned to me once as someone he might like, but he was reluctant. I think it's a great choice.)

Commander Ramirez - Rosario Dawson
(Because who wouldn't want Rosario Dawson starring in their show?)

Commander Ramirez (Alternate) - Roxanne Dawson
(Actually my first instinct choice, B'Elanna without the Klingon make-up)

Lieutenant Commander Pava La'aragos - Liev Shreiber
(He used to look young enough to be long-lived but old enough to have been there and done that. He's your man.)

Lieutenant Commander Pell Ojana - ?
(The originator of this character mentioned he thought of Connie Nielsen. When I shamelessly stole her for one of my fics, I pictured Emma Caulfield. I'm not sure either is right.)
I think Clive Owen projected a lot of Sandhurst's wounded psyche and exhaustion in his role in Children of Men. That sense of his being worn down by life came across well, though physically Owen is larger than Sandhurst by about five or six inches.

Roxanne Dawson would be closer to my image of Ramirez than Rosario, but Admiral2 had a Latina model/actress in mind for his My Way series that I thought was a dead ringer for Liana, only I can't remember her name!

Liev Shreiber is an interesting choice for Lar'ragos, though I'm not sure his body-size and hair are right. He does have a time-worn look about him, despite being relatively youthful, however.

As for Pell, I'd have to defer to DarKush on that one, as he originated the character. :)

Patricia Velasquez as Isabel Montoya. Starkers is also using her as his ship's captain (but he can't find a decent picture of her:angel:[tee hee]). Or are you thinking of Michelle Rodriguez as Gwendolyn Flores? If it's Velasquez, gotta disagree. I don't see her as Ramirez at all. But you would know best obviously.

I just didn't want to be one of the numerous people jonesing over Malcolm McDowell. (PEOPLE! Just cause he played an El-Aurian don't automatically mean he's right for the part! You might just as well cast Whoopi Goldberg!)

Someone said Ali Larter, but since I left the post I've been thinking Olivia Wilde (House, MD)

As for Akinola, here's my thing:

I'll just say this, repercussions or not. I'm the type of guy that thinks if you're going to cast a character, the ethnicity of the actor should match the ethnicity of the character. It's just common sense to me, and it's kind of a personal bugaboo of mine. For instance, the one thing that grates on me about Scarface is that it's supposed to be about Puerto Rican mobsters and ain't none of the main characters played by Puerto Ricans! Another example, Halle Berry - the least African woman I can think of - being cast as Storm in X-Men, a character that is clearly from Africa, not California. And Jessica Alba playing Sue Storm gives me nightmares at night. (You people seriously couldn't find a young, white blonde girl in Hollywood that would help you sell tickets??:wtf:)

So with Akinola, I want to cast someone who's really African, or who at least looks African. I don't want to just plug in any old African-american, which is why Morgan Freeman and Tucker Smallwood don't fit for me. I think in terms of Ejiofore and Djimon Honsou - again, too young - or guys like Yaphet Kotto, Blu Mankuma, or Ron Canada - better for looks and age but all too chunky, last I saw of them.

So there's my dilemma. Make of it what you will.

And while I'm on the subject: captcalhoun, dude, really, not to knock your taste in women, but no way in hell is Lena Headey right for Bobbie March! Not because she's pretty, not because she's not butch enough, but simply because even if you taught her how to speak every American English accent ever, there's no way she'd come across as someone who used to be a southwestern American farm girl who learned to shoot on her sniper daddy's big ass rifle! That's how you wrote her. That's not Lena Headey. If you must go the Sarah Connor route, Linda Hamilton is a much better choice, but really, you need a young American woman with light hair that still has freckles. (I don't see why you don't use Jennifer Garner! You like her, dontcha?)

Jen's Commander T'lana from Special Ops

Bobbi's a brunette and doesn't have freckles. she's also Lena Headey. That's how I've imagined her since about the third story.

Really?

Allrighty then. Not gonna argue.

Just can't imagine the Spartan queen from 300 as Bobbi March, is all... :vulcan:

I was actually thinking of Katee Sackhoff (her look in Bionic Woman) as Bobbi, clearly you have made your mind up though.

I see a younger Jennifer Lopez as Sintina Aurelia, headstrong and inexperienced; with Alex Siddig as bin Nadal.

Thank you for refreshing my memory, Admiral2! Michelle Rodriguez is who I saw when I was picturing Liana Ramirez for my stories, so much so that it was a bit startling to see her image in the flesh. :bolian:

And, by the way, you have terrific taste in commanders. :D

Thank ye! :D

And while I'm here, I'll try my hand at a couple more Bluefin characters:

Delta Simms - Zoe Mclellan
SCPO Solly Brin - Abraham Benrubi
Lt. Rune - Kelly Monaco (Find her Playboy pics, imagine her greeeen... )

Well, regarding my series, I’ve always had Alana De La Garza in mind for Shantok.
But I don’t know who I’d put in the other roles.

Suggestions would be appreciated. I’m constructing a web site for Intrepid, which will include photo manips for the crew. But picking out faces isn’t as easy as I thought. For a lesser know character, I chose a generic royalty free photo. The “main cast” is a bit harder.

The other downside to a royalty free photo is that you’re usually stuck with a singe picture, where as actors provide a variety of poses.

The oft mentioned Captain Banti Awokou referenced in my stories and DarKush's was envisioned as being played by the late Henri Cele. Now that man had gravitas.

A valid point, Admiral2. I agree that Morgan Freeman is not someone I would cast as a contemporary Nigerian. However, Joseph Akinola lives in the 24th century and has lived practically his entire life in space. He's only been to Africa on rare occasions. His is the culture of traders, merchantmen and space-farers. While he appreciates his Nigerian heritage, it is in many ways foreign to him as a fourth generation boomer. Thus, casting an "authentic" African actor is less important for this character, at least to me.

Plus, Morgan Freeman is probably my favorite actor.

Out of curiosity, Admiral2, who would you cast for Christopher Pike in your stories? I visualize Kiefer Sutherland.

Fair enough.

He's one of my favorites. I just don't see him as Akinola - and remember folks, this thread is about casting the other guy's fics, so I'm calling 'em as I see 'em!

Out of curiosity, Admiral2, who would you cast for Christopher Pike in your stories? I visualize Kiefer Sutherland.

Kiefer/Pike: Take us to Talos Four! TAKE US THERE NOW!!!!

Kidding. Really though, you didn't know? All the main characters from MyWay Trek are cast. I picked Dylan Neal for Pike.

I think that Mclellan and Monaco are inspired choices! Mclellan definitely has the hair and "look" for Delta. Monaco is just, well . . . ;) As to Benrubi, let's just say he needs to go on an intense physical training regimen.

Dylan Neal for your Pike? Yeah, I can definitely see that. (Still, Kiefer Sutherland would be a hoot! )

Every time I picture Solly Brin in my head I get the image of Ron Perlman as Hellboy. Hey, they're both red, right?

::cackles:: The only person I could ever cast for mine is Jimmy Doohan. But alas, he's gone, so...
