Cast change confirmed

With production on Doctor Who going privatized, there's very little that the BBC can do to stop RTD from going with another female Doctor if that's what he wants to do.
Doctor Who remains one of BBC's largest properties. They're going to have input on the new Doctor.
I'll be amazed if we don't know who 14 is before Legend of the Sea Devils airs.
I don't know about that soon. I do feel confident by the end of summer we'll know who it is.

He would be good, but not photogenic enough for the demands of modern who. Didn’t his dad do some classic who? Would be odd if he hadn’t.

Almost 50 bald dude in episode one.

By episode 3, you could see how he could juggle two wives because of inner beauty and character.

Besides, it's a very narrow window that is after a fuc#able Doctor.

Even though we don't know when "Legend of the Sea Devils" comes out, i don't think we'll know that early. But I would be shocked if we don't know by the end of the year. In fact, I bet the announcement will happen during the Centenary celebrations.

Yeah, i assume by then they will have a new actor cast in the role and it will be announced by then, so i would say we will see Whittaker regen into the new actor at the end of the centenary special which is both Chibnall and Whittaker last episode, then that leaves RTD to start in 2023 with his new broom.

Matt Smith, announced January 2009, first appearance January 2010.

The End of Time was filmed in March 2009, just two months after Smith was announced, so my assertion stands.

And you're still assuming we won't see 13 regenerate into 14 this year

Because there's absolutely nothing to suggest that we will.

The only actors in the modern era of Doctor Who other than Jodie to have filmed their final episode before their successor was officially announced are Chris Eccleston (he finished filming Bad Wolf and The Parting of the Ways just one month prior to Tennant being announced) and Peter Capaldi (he finished filming Twice Upon a Time just 6 days prior to Jodie being announced).

Jodie, by contrast, filmed her final episode 2 months ago, but the search for her replacement only began within the last 10 days.

Post-production on the Centenary Special will therefore likely be long completed by the time we learn who the new Doctor is, even if we get an announcement on that front within the next few months.

That would be one way to reference the shows past. Very odd choice of Troughton reference though.

Going forward, all creative decisions for Doctor Who will be under the purview of Bad Wolf Productions, not the BBC.

That’s just the same as when RTD was show-runner. And Moffat. They also had final say on merch. Only Chibnall has possibly seen involvement from the suits.
Basically it’s under Bad Wolf purview, because it’s them that are taking over production, and are likely paid through the company rather than direct from the beeb. (Again, just like much has been since the early nineties, when Soho was flooded with new offices…) Bad Wolf is in essence a new Tiger Aspect.

Jamie was with the Doctor from 1966 to 1985.
It's a time-travel series so those dates are rather meaningless. If Jamie had been tempted into kilt lifting, all memory of it was probably erased by the Time Lords in 1969 (The War Games). In The Two Doctors, the Sixth Doctor reminisces that he was always rather fond of Jamie when they travelled together...

I always preferred to think of the Doctor, who is an alien after all, as being celibate toward humans - a belief which the TV movie trashed to a small extent. River Song was an exception but she was basically a human turned into a Gallifreyan by magic. We know when she died but time travel and all that, is there slash fiction where she could turn up and spoil things - or perhaps join in?

You mean aside from tradition and the fact that revealing a new Doctor for the BBC's hundredth anniversary is one hell of a promotion gimmick no one in their right mind would pass up.

But ignoring all that, because I know you are, there's also the fact that it's already been confirmed Whittaker has filmed her regeneration scene. Which means in October we will see her skin glow and watch as she assumes the position of arms stretched out, head tilted back and her body is absorbed in an energy flow and replaced with someone else. That scene's going to look mighty damn odd if we don't actually see that someone else at the end of it.

I mean, they can come back and film a scene with the new Doctor once they're cast and insert it into the episode well before it airs. That's not unprecedented and indeed is basically what Tennant did for his scene in Parting of the Ways. And indeed, that's what you mistakenly claimed was done last year with Dan's scene after Revolution of the Daleks.

I saw Shrek again this Christmas. It’s influence on Who did not go un-noticed.
And you know Chibnall would absolutely pass up that gimmick if he had a choice xD

So you literally moved the goalposts? You didn't say filmed, you say debuted, i.e. in the first time they were seen on screen. You're just incapable of ever being wrong aren't you?

Exactly, we live in a world where new actors can be digitally inserted into a film after it's in the can. They managed this easily enough 15 years ago, they can manage it even easier now.

RTD got away with just having Eccleston show up without a regeneration because he was selling the show to viewers who didn't have a clue who the Doctor was, the concept of regeneration would have confused half the people watching (if not more) this time everyone understands, more to the point now everyone expects a regeneration, it's a huge selling point and that fact that Jodie has already filmed her half of it doesn't matter. We know Yaz and Dan are leaving, so it's almost certain they'll be gone before Whittaker actually regenerates so she'll be alone (probably in the Tardis) ala Tennant > Smith or Capaldi > Whittaker. The set will still be there and adding a few effects will be relatively straight forward.

Or, even simpler. Whittaker starts to glow. There's a big flash. Cut to titles and then, at the end of the titles, we get a post credits scene. Tardis door opens, Michael Sheen* staggers out (Pertwee style) falls to his knees before a river, looks at his reflection in the water and goes "Oh no!".

But hey I could be wrong, but you know what? If I am I'll hold me hands up and admit it. Not sure certain other people will if they're barking up the wrong tree (mentioning no names) ;)

*It probably won't be Michael Sheen.
