Cast change confirmed

I liked Bradley Walsh as Graham, because he had a clear personality--his dry humor, his calm "oh-what-the-fuck-now" approach was refreshing. Aside from the first episode, I don't feel like Ryan had much to do--they just didn't develop him enough and the actor wasn't really capable of standing out among the group.

I hope they do more with Yaz. She had one or two nice moments but, like with most companions, she needs to be pretty forcefully developed in order grab the audience's attention. The companions have to be strong on-screen personalities when they're standing next to the Doctor or they just fade into the background. I feel that the writing for this series overall just hasn't been very strong and that shows in the companions--to me, they feel fairly nondescript.

I met Tosin Cole in person at a convention. Interesting, he seemed to have much more of a personality in person than his character did. I'm thinking it's more the show's fault that his character Ryan was underdeveloped.

I agree that Graham was a real gem of a character!

Did Four and Adric have any serials alone together? The only stories I've seen with both of them are The Keeper of Traken and Logopolis.
Traken. Nyssa is in it, but at the time was a one-off character, not intended to carry on.

And it's confirmed. Mandip will not continue on with Doctor Who after Jodie leaves

Not terribly surprising. Especially since she's already the longest running companion since the show returned in 2005. Well, if you count by series plus specials. If counting by episodes, then Coleman and Gillan still have her beat.

In other news, Jodie Whittaker wants Lydia West to replace her:

Outgoing Doctor Whittaker shared her take during an appearance on Kids Ask, a feature in which children ask questions adults probably wouldn’t get away with, on BBC Radio 1 earlier this month, saying: “I’m going to pick an actress who I think is really exciting and I think would be phenomenal, an actress called Lydia West – if I had the power!”

Davies recently said auditions for the role of the next Doctor were “just starting”, telling The Guardian: “We have genuinely not cast anyone yet.”

Meanwhile, as her name began to be thrown around in conversations among Whovians, Lydia West previously told RadioTimes.com it would be “an honour” to join Doctor Who and follow in Whittaker’s footsteps.

“The fact I’ve been named as one of the favourites is quite special,” she said. “So it would be an honour to be the Doctor. I’m glad people think I could do it!”

I really enjoy Jodie as an actress, and enjoyed her Doctor, but let's be honest... there is no way the next Doctor will be female. Doctor Who is in damage control mode right now. Chibnall is gone, along with his Doctor. Russell T. Davies is back to effectively "right the ship", and you can bet the tone of the show will return to classic Davies-era. The sad thing is, whatever anyone feels about the last three seasons, the Doctor being a woman is going to held by the Powers That Be as the reason the ratings went down, and because of this, we'll be lucky if we see another female Doctor for at least another decade. Everything Chibnall (female doctor, crowded Tardis, Timeless Child) are going to swept aside and/or reconned as soon as the second Davies era begins. Thoughts?

just looked her up.

young, female, black.

the daily fail and torygraph would have an absolute shit fit.

hire her :)

If she'd done a full fourth season she'd be the longest staying companion full stop. Season-wise.

The BBC has never before had any influence over the casting of a new Doctor in the past, and with full-on production of the program going privatized after Jodie and Chibnall leave in October, it's extremely unlikely that they'll have any influence over the casting of the new one.

IOW, if RTD and Bad Wolf want another female Doctor, we'll get another female Doctor.

Plain and simple.

^ Fine. I was wrong.

The second half of my comment still stands, though.

With production on Doctor Who going privatized, there's very little that the BBC can do to stop RTD from going with another female Doctor if that's what he wants to do.

Given she's such an uninteresting companion that's quite depressing. Give me one season of Donna or Bill over three seasons of Yaz. I don't think anyone imagined she'd cross over to the new Doctor.

I like Lydia West, and initially thought she'd be good. Now not so sure, not sure why.

I see no reason why the 14th Doctor shouldn't be a woman. There's an argument that they should double down on the idea of a female Doctor, backing out now suggests Whittaker was a failure. That said reverting to the mean also makes sense. So we could get Lydia West, we could get Michael Sheen, guess we'll find out sooner or later.

While RTD had worked with both Eccleston and Tennant before, there's no guarantee that 14 will be an actor he's worked with before. Hopefully it'll be someone we'd never considered

The announcement of the next Doctor and Companion(s) probably won't happen until 2023 since their tenure won't officially begin until November of that year.

I'll be amazed if we don't know who 14 is before Legend of the Sea Devils airs.

It’s not being privatised.
It’s following the same model as other beeb shows have since the nineties, and is closer to the model who itself had when RTD started.
