Case dismissed! Discovery and Tardigrade game "not similar"

The Disco uniforms look more copied from Futurama than anything.
And I like them.
I like them which is more than I can say for anything in the Mass Effect series.
Someone should put together some comparison screenshots to prove all this rampant ME copying. I'm curious but lazy. :)

Honestly, If I were one of the folks who worked on MA, I'd be rather tickled-pink to think that a 50 year old IP was imitating a bit of my ideas.

Though ENTERPRISE had something similar Six Years before MS was even released.
YMMV

Thanks, @fireproof78. The DISCO uniform is not remotely a copy of that other thing.

But I'm getting a few Starfleet arrowhead/delta vibes coming from the insignia on that other thing, even though it's also not a copy. [ninja'd by CC]

If those were red instead of blue, they'd look an awful lot like the monster maroons
That's also a good point.

I'm trying to figure out if the epaulets are somehow connected to that odd tactical-bib or apron or whatever the black wraparound thing is.

I think the Epaulets & the Cummerbund may be one piece connected in the back?
Or it might just be it's all sewed together as a jacket.
He appears to be wearing a black, short-collar-turtleneck underneath.

OMG ...
Are you implying that the Mass Effect developers actually COPIED STAR TREK!!!!

Oh the indignity of it all !!!!

<chuckle>
Which demonstrates a fundamental flaw in the whole argument. There is definitely a generic aesthetic Hollywood has adapted for science fiction - from everything from space shows to video games to the command deck of the Avenger's carrier or even the CnC rooms at Langley and MI6. But Star Trek played a big part of establishing that aesthetic in the first place. As have Alien and SW and 2001 and 50s shorts and so on. But it's impossible to say where one idea came from. The only thing for sure is that it wasn't Mass Effect. It's way too new to have had any influence whatsoever.

To my eyes, the designs are only similar in that they are all rather generic.
Yup exactly. The 'genericness' of both the set and the costume design has been my biggest complaint of the show. But so is anything having to do with Mass Effect. It is more they are both symptoms of the same problem than one having influence over the other.

And as a little anecdotal aside to show just how generic, last summer my uncle was in town. He's moving back to the US and was thinking about moving to Albuquerque. And I tagged along while he was house hunting.

One of the houses we saw had this odd mix of traditional New Mexican and nuTech futurism. EVERYTHING was stainless steel: all the appliances, the furniture, the cabinets, the lights - even some parts of the walls. The floors were tile, but it was a silverish gray tile. The bits of wall that weren't stainless steel where either terra cotta or turquoise adobe. (So amber and teal.) And the cushions, pillows, blankets, etc. were also either terra cotta or turquoise. The lighting in the kitchen was almost all under-cabinet LED track lighting with very warmish orange color. And sure enough, every single appliance - from the oven and fridge to the toaster and coffee maker had a blue LED display.

I should ask my mom if she got any pictures of that kitchen. I swear, it could easily pass for the Disco galley.
