Cartoon Network picks up Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Well, considering the piss-poor quality of the PREVIOUS CN "Clone Wars" offering, this should spell the end of the show in short order...

What??? What planet are you on?

Getting picked up for a second season is the show's death knell in your mind?

I fully expect that this show will get its full order fully aired and syndicated.

I think the only real detractors to this show are those who hated the PT. But for those of us who thought the PT was alright, and just love the Star Wars mythos in general love this show.

What is it? Is it the fact that the guys dressed up in psuedo Storm Trooper armor are the good guys?

OK, I MAY be laboring under bad information here:

1)isn't THIS Clone Wars (the full CG one) currently airing on some other network and CN is only NOW picking it up? Or was it a CN show from the beginning?

2) I was basing my crit of CN having the show on the cel-animated "Clone Wars" shorts from a few years ago. I found them childish and poorly written. They also WAY overpowered the Jedi, like the installment with Mace Windu single handedly taking out thousands of battledroids (several DOZEN at a time) without a scratch to show for it.

1) Only on CN as far as I'm aware, in the US at least.

2) While I'm not sure everyone shares your opinion of the Tartakovsky shorts the Jedi power levels are more restrained in this series.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars also airs on either TBS or TNT. I know that it starts this Saturday with the film at 11:00pm.

Edit: It airs on TNT starting Saturday. Episodes will also air on Wednesdays at 10:00.

Thanks for clarifying...

True, which is why I LIKE this Clone Wars and was afraid of a loss in quality when I percieved it was changing networks to CN.

I wonder what made them do a "pull back" on the power level for this go-round...

I think it's simply a manner of style. The Clone Wars shorts were done by the guy who did Samurai Jack and The Powerpuff Girls. He's known for his over-the-top action and style and The Clone Wars followed suit. That was the style of story he wanted to tell. I've known people who liked that those shorts made the Jedi the feared adversaries worthy of what the movies make them out to be. Obviously that doesn't work for everyone and some just find them ridiculous.

I think they were plenty fearsome enough in the movies and this incarnation of CW without being unstoppable ubermensch. But, as you said, that's a matter of opinion.

I really liked the Tartavosky (sp?) shorts, even though the power levels were completely exaggerated. I almost wish that's how the cinematic Jedi were! While it's certainly in a different perspective than the proper universe, and I love the current show, it was just so cool so these invincible super Jedi kicking ass :D Let both exist in peace!

The Jedi in the movies never used The Force to it's fullest potential, which makes them look pretty dumb, really. You've got the ability to manipulate the mystical energy field that surrounds and binds all living things and the best use you can come up with for it is making yourself a better swordfighter? That's seriously lacking in imagination. A guy with the bare minimum of training can lift an x-wing out of a swamp. Someone who has spend his entire life mastering the subtleties of The Force should be able to do so much more. The limited Force use seen in the movies does make the Jedi fearsome, yes, but given the potential applications for their abilities the fact that they don't do more than twirl around their laser sticks and occasionally levitate things just makes them look stupid.

Wow, ever since when did the network become run by catholic priests? >.>

What I found odd is the fact that every Star Wars fan I know is a chick.

I'm not a fan, never watched the series

But I don't go to conventions!

Besides, wouldn't hooking up with a chick dressed up like Leia seem kind of...I dunno...wrong?

Stormtroopers is what the ones I know go dressed us....crazy concept myself, though, never been to any sort of tv show dedicated convention.

For you, maybe. :p

I, on the other hand, thoroughly endorse this new thing for female Star Wars fans to go to conventions dressed in the Slave Leia outfit.

No, this current CG-animated Clone Wars series is a CN original, so to speak. The TNT airings was something that was talked about early on before the show was even made I think. I think the arrangement was something like first run airings on CN and then later airings on TNT.

So, no, the statement of CN "picking up the show" is about it's renewal for a 2nd season. Which is why I questioned your rather weird initial response. Getting picked up for a 2nd season spells doom for the show? See, doesn't make sense.

Well, your crit was severely misplaced, and I'll leave it at that. Yes, the original Tartakovsky (sp?) shorts were a bit childish, but I think that was due to the fact that they were "shorts". Had to get a lot in in a very short amount of time.

This new series is great in my opinion. Are all episodes the next best thing to sliced bread? No, of course not, but the ones that are good, are pretty damn great. One of my favorite is the episode called "Grievous' Lair". Where Kit Fisto and his Mon Calamari apprentice and a few Clones went to Grievous's hideout after being tipped off by Dooku. Where it was revealed how Grievous looked like before becoming the robot he is now. There was a pretty bad ass sabre fight between Grievous and Fisto at the end that got pretty epic. Lots of sabre spinning by Grievous.

Agreed...I haven't seen any of the new series, but the movie was excellent, and I was afraid that the quality of the series (which I WILL eventually watch on dvd) wouldn't live up to it if CN was in charge.

I see now that my concerns were based off of misunderstood information...

TNZ is probably a more appropriate place for Catholic bashing. Go there if you want to make fun of Jews, Muslims, blacks and Hispanics as well. Most posters are able to keep their bigotry out of the SFF threads, and it would be great if you could do the same. :techman:
