Cartoon Network announced today that it has picked-up a second season of the hit CG-animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," from creator George Lucas and Lucasfilm Animation. Slated to premiere in the fall of 2009, the second season will continue to take audiences on new and exciting adventures, combining the legendary storytelling of Lucasfilm with innovative animation. The season one finale of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" airs on Cartoon Network Friday, March 20 at 9 pm ET/PT.

"'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' is like nothing else on television and has delivered for us on all levels," said Stuart Snyder, President/COO Turner Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media. "It has helped us launch a great new night of action-adventure on Fridays and build on our dominance with boys. We look forward to continuing what has been a great relationship with George and everyone at Lucasfilm."

"We're trying to push the envelope even further in the second season," said George Lucas. "In the features, I focused on telling the story of the Skywalker family. With The Clone Wars I'm exploring far beyond that and we barely scratched the surface in the first season. It's exciting to be able to take people to all these new places in the Star Wars galaxy."

Well, considering the piss-poor quality of the PREVIOUS CN "Clone Wars" offering, this should spell the end of the show in short order...

After the dreary Clone Wars animated film and the disappointing prequel trilogy, I didn't want to like the series; but I do. Especially since they toned down Anakin's formerly-annoying Padawan. I'm looking forward to another season.

admittedly, it got better as it went along....ironically, the best episodes are the ones like the "Clone base under siege by commando droids" one that DO NOT feature the utterly bland prequel characters like Anakin et al.

It DID get better.....but someone should have realized that the original pilot episodes COULD NOT stand up to being released in theaters, and were AWFUL press for the show.

It's still a pretty bad show, even thought it kind of improved.

What's interesting is the show doesn't seem to have a linear flow - well not as many of us would call it. Last Friday's episode took place prior to the film for example.

Subpar film debut aside, it's been mostly enjoyable thus far. I think the plan was for 5 seasons for what I read.

The last episode was mostly pointless, except to explain why the clones were lacking hardware on Christophsis. And lightsaber battles that go no where seem to be a recurring cliche. But they can't all be winners.

Well in the movies a lightsaber fight ends with someone getting killed or loosing a limb. But when you do a 100 episode TV series, every lightsaber fight can't end that way unfortunately. Of course one way to rectify this is to introduce more disposable dark siders and not just have them fight Ventress or Grevious in every episode.

Good riddance, "only two Sith at a time" rule... :p

It's been shown in just about every Star Wars medium that while there are only two Sith there can be a bevvy of Dark Side adepts. There's using the Dark Side, then there's the secrets of the Sith. So the Seppies can have a thousand dark side warriors as far as established rules say.

I'm now caught up with this show and I'm really enjoying it. Good to hear that it's been picked up.

nah they made that clear in Tartakovsky's shorts that introduced Ventress: she's not a full-fledged "Sith". You can be a "Dark Jedi" but not officially "a Sith". Which seems to be bending the rules a bit, but they DO stress "you are not a Sith yet"

Bending the rules...definately. Merchandise calls Ventress a "sith apprentice" at least for the sake of easy labelling.

Basically, the rule of two really messes with EU. Why do all dark jedi seem to carry red lightsabers? Why are they aligned with the sith, as opposed to rivals?

It's a great series, I'm not surprised it's been picked up. It's pulled the highest viewing audience Cartoon Network ever had.

The Force will be with us, always.

the Jedi Knight games all screw with the idea of dark-Force users not being Sith as well. Jerec, Maw, Pic et al in JK1 are all Dark Jedi. then in JK2, the Lizard dude was a dark Jedi with an apprentice and then had cannon-fodder dark Force users...

I don't find the idea of the Sith having dark sider soldiers to be breaking the Rule of Two at all. These are just lackies, cannon fodder. They're not let into the super secret pinkey swear Sith club. Without Sith teachings/magic they don't hold a candle to the actual Sith Lords and they don't have to worry about being betrayed, but they're kept at arm's length anyway.

What??? What planet are you on?

Getting picked up for a second season is the show's death knell in your mind?

I fully expect that this show will get its full order fully aired and syndicated.

I think the only real detractors to this show are those who hated the PT. But for those of us who thought the PT was alright, and just love the Star Wars mythos in general love this show.

What is it? Is it the fact that the guys dressed up in psuedo Storm Trooper armor are the good guys?

OK, I MAY be laboring under bad information here:

1)isn't THIS Clone Wars (the full CG one) currently airing on some other network and CN is only NOW picking it up? Or was it a CN show from the beginning?

2) I was basing my crit of CN having the show on the cel-animated "Clone Wars" shorts from a few years ago. I found them childish and poorly written. They also WAY overpowered the Jedi, like the installment with Mace Windu single handedly taking out thousands of battledroids (several DOZEN at a time) without a scratch to show for it.

I always thought the Rule of Two was goofy, when I first heard it I assumed it meant there were always two as in a master and a padawan not there were two in the entire galaxy.
