I don't think Superfriends is a good comparison, because those were all about action-adventure and had little characterization. It sounds more like, say, the swiftly-cancelled live-action version of The Tick, which featured very little actual superheroing and was mostly about what the heroes did in their downtime.

Hmm, not thrilled with this. What was cool about the original show was that it balanced goofy comedy with legitimate superhero action and often-intense character drama. This incarnation sounds a lot more narrowly focused.

Agreed. I think one of the strengths of the original show is that certain episodes were clearly just for fun or were skewed a bit in the silly direction, but they were still enjoyable. There were other episodes that were much darker and more serious, such as the character of Red X. There was a clear balance, and I'll keep an open mind on the new version but I'm a bit skeptical at this point.
