Carters scanning device?

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
I was watching a season 5 episode last night and I noticed Carter had this hand scanner device, that she has had throughout the series, and I was wondering what exactly it was, if it was actually a real device and how it works?

IIRC, it was just a prop. It appeared to be able to detect various types of radiation going by how she used to get SG-1 through the maze in "The Quest".

I realised that what Carter had would only be a prop but I what I meant was if there is an actual real world device like it?

Sorry

That really bugged me. Normally SG-1 was good about showing how new tech was acquired, but that thing just appeared one day....

Yeah, it was totally fake. The base for the prop changed a couple times through the series, but in all cases it was really a universal TV remote dressed up to look Sci-Fi. I actually have a replica of the version she used in "Crystal Skull," but I can't for the life of me remember what brand and model it was.

The precursor of it is actually in the movie when one of the team scans the naquadah being mined by the Abydonians with a scanner and announces it's composition.

If I had to guess, I'd say the gadget (and it's kin that pop up now and then in the show) are supposed to be a multi-band geiger counter coupled with a spectral analysis device of some sort.
