"Carrier" on PBS

Anyone watching besides me?

It's kind of reality-TVish (and I don't normally dig that sort of thing), but I've found it to be more or less entertaining and interesting--though I haven't really learned anything I didn't already know.

Overall, it's fairly well done. The editing is fairly good and some of the cinematography is unbelievable.

No, but they spend a lot of time with sailors moping over their hunnies and what not. There's also some of that artificial interpersonal melodrama that's created with crafty editing.

Since Battlestar Galactica is emulating life on a carrier ship I can't stop thinking about that when watching "Carrier". Where's their starbuck and Apollo?

Same here! No big action like BSG, but the daily operations and personal stuff are actually very interesting.

I thought last nights bit about landing with the high swells was pretty awesome.
Yeah, when the aircraft is in ACLS (automatic carrier landing system) mode 4, you can actually see the aircraft pitch and roll with the ship. It can freak out the unsuspecting passenger if they aren't warned first.

I missed most of last night's show, I was watching Ghost Hunters. I have watched all the rest thou.

I know that can get pretty hairy. Is it among the clips found here? I didn't see a likely title.

Most, if not all, of those clips appear to be deleted scenes not shown on TV.

Episode 7 "Rites of Passage" is the one with the storm and if you have the opportunity to record or watch it I highly recommend it, even if you don't want to watch the rest of the series.

It certainly looks interesting, but to me it feels like PBS is trying to have the same success as the Discovery Channel and the History Channel with their "reality" shows.

It's a great ad for...the submarine force!

My friend watching it with me and seeing the night landings in a rough sea now understand why I say all those rude things about the air force.

No shit.

Navy pilots:

Have to land on carriers
Get to go to Top Gun
And wear dress whites with gold wings

And what's the Air Force got?

You have to feel bad for the guy whose pregnant girlfriend went back to her old boyfriend while he was on float.

SO..he lost his girl, will pay child support, and have to be haunted by the knowledge that he is forking over cash to a cheater. He best just stay in the navy and go as far as he can.
