Carol Marcus Returns!

Wait, she's not wearing underwear because STID had no clue of what it was doing? (apart from superficial nostalgic-squeezing homage, forgetting that TOS crewmembers never wore underwear like that and the short outfits were a symbol of liberation that ultimately backfired becau-- good bloody grief, this is bog standard middle school history class guff...)

Eve's Carol Marcus was one of the many wonderful things about Star Trek into Darkness, and the inexplicable failure to bring her back was one of the multiple disappointments of Star Trek Beyond.

Eve did much with the scenes she was given and, no, I'm not referring to the pointless underwear scene. She would have stood out had she been her own character and not a name regurgitated from 1982 as lame and superficial nostalgiabait. Even more so if she wasn't copping Elizabeth Dehner's hairdo* from "Where No Man Has Gone Before", it's like the movie's sole point was to use 60s and 80s Trek iconic bits and slap them in the audiences' faces like a bucket of wet mackerels that had been in room temperature for two weeks. The reversal of the contrived death/magic revival scenes were "epic fails" on so many levels, but they also score the most points for slapping the most fish simultaneously.

* though on the flip side, Alice Eve did manage to carry it off. It's not the most generic haircut and it doesn't work on all facial styles.

"Beyond" was still the better entry, by far...

(And before it's brought up, IDIC probably has provisions for disallowing a script that is so baseless and shamelessly pointless, STID - despite the double double cross of potential from Admiral Robocop - is easily the worst of the three flicks... IMHO, YMMV. Art is subjective but even ST09 put more into its entry.)

"In the Star Trek movies I play science officer Carol Marcus."

Is this some kind of secret hint at future plans, or just inaccuracy from whoever wrote this ad?

Kor

according to justin lin, early versions of his film had carol in it too. but then she was reduced to a reference in pegg's script (she's off starting the genesis project), then there's no mention at all.

That would have been daft since its a secret project, only Kirk knew about it in TWOK due to his rank.

i mean, we don't know how specific the reference would've been. but also alternate reality so who knows...

she's not wearing the right boots, i'm wondering if this is an ANOVOS uniform.

still good to see her again/depressing as hell if this is the last time we see KT character.

Erm.
Just picking yours out of the many posts...

She’s not in character.
She’s playing herself.
