Cardassian Space

Hi guys,

I'm must say I'm apologise for different topic because I can't find match Cardassian question on the home menu.

The Question of Cardassian is how many each planet and moon in Cardassian Union? what the name of Cardassian Planet and the moons?

Thank you,

Martyn.

^I suggest you try asking in Trek Lit or maybe Fan Fic.

We know of dozens of worlds from onscreen canon but the exact status of said worlds is unclear.

In the novels we have, the Prime system(the homeworld), the hub colones(possibly long term settled native Cardassian worlds) and the Union Territories (recently settled planets including the DMZ). Then there are the Client Worlds (annexed or otherwise conquered planets and other territories).

Most of the above terminology is of my own extrapolation so treat it as you will.;)

Oh and the home world is simply called Prime, Cardassia Prime. (Unlike those Humans whom call their homeworld 'Ground/dirt'. Pah!)

Late to the party, but surely Cardassia Prime is just some UT buggery, with those fool Federation types having their own silly name for the planet being played over someone's manly Cardassian speaking voice.

Romulus, Andoria, Tellar Prime, etc. and all that. What, did the Founders come from Founderia?

The Federation main world is called Earth indeed, but in English. Anybody heard about the traduction in Klingon or some other language ? Like Sol III or something like that ? It's logical to call home your own house, but not the neighbour's one.

I've occasionally seen Earth listed as Sol III in some Trek sources.

I do think that it is possible a name like that could arise in the case of a planet adopting an artificially created language, or otherwise going "politically correct." With some of the more repressive Trek societies, I think it's possible.

I could well buy the central world of the Cardassian Union going by the name "Prime" (however that is spelled in Cardassian). I could also buy this name going back to the mists of history and preceding the repressive society. The Feds would just add the "Cardassia" bit for clarity.

While a name like "Prime" would probably only arise when the Cardassians acknowledged the existence of other worlds, it makes sense that a definitive name for the Cardassian world would be adopted at the same time the other worlds were acknowledged. There'd be little need earlier on...

Some cultures on Earth keep on calling Earth by the name it held before it was realized that it was a world, that is, a planet. Some have different names for the two concepts - in Finnish, our planet is formally known as Maapallo (Earthball, Earthsphere), even if our world is simply Maa (an ancient word with unknown etymology, synonymous with dirt but apparently only "after the fact"). Cardassians could well call their planet "Prime" but their world "Dirt" or "Mother" or "Place" or "Home" or whatever.

In my fanfic, the Cardassians essentially named Earth "Terran Prime," making a grammar mistake by taking the name of the species rather than the name of the planet to come up with their name. I figured turnabout was fair play, considering how humans in Trek named so many other planets.
