Cardassian Name?

I was just wondering if it is ever mentioned how the writers came up with the name Cardassian?

Good point. Just checked under The Wounded and there is no explanation for the name but there is some explanation to their appearance and where the idea came from.

Well, many of you could probably guess why I am thinking of it..."Keeping up with the Kardashians".

I was wondering if it was named after someone of Armenian decent that worked on trek or something, you never know.

Oh well, perhaps it will remain a trek mystery.

They came up with the name Cardassians because they were from Cardassia. Kidding.

Personally, when I need to come up with a sci-fi-esque name for something I just put random syllables together in my head. But a lot of things in Trek are clearly derived from other things, I do wonder where "Cardassian" comes from. Good question.
