Cara Dune

But also just as a general rule; it's almost never a good idea to directly remake a GOOD movie. That's just setting yourself up for failure. If you're going to remake anything, remake something that had a good idea behind it, but flawed execution and has since fallen between the cracks and out of mind. No I'm not talking about the ST, that's just dumb. The Ewok movies on the other hand have some potential for a modern remake. That and the Droids cartoon.
I swear I saw something about a new C-3P0 & R2-D2 animated series back when they announced a bunch of stuff they were working on, but I don't think it was actually called a remake of Droids though.

You're probably thinking of 'A Droid Story', which was announced a little over two years ago along with everything else on this slate, and so far as I'm aware there's been nary a peep about it since. Given that it's said to be a joint project between Lucasfilm Animation & ILM, this sounds like a full CG project, but also photoreal (possibly comped onto live action plates) because why else would ILM be involved? To me this screams "elaborate tech demo" dressed up as an animated short.

ILM did a photoreal fully-animated movie with Rango. Something with an all-droid cast as opposed to all-critter would certainly be in their wheelhouse.

I'm not saying it's impossible that they'll eventually go back to that well (this is the same company making progressively more terrible live action remakes of it's old animated classics after all) but I just don't see them even thinking about going anywhere near that anytime soon. One of the main advantages of the Star Wars franchise is that it has vast potential in terms of scope and doesn't necessarily need to be tied to the original characters in every instance. So there's no pressing need, plus some of the most positive critical and audience responses they've gotten since the buyout has been for stuff that goes off and does it's own thing anyway.

I do agree it will be awhile before they remake the classic movies. But then again new people come in and old people go out. We have no idea what vision the person who replaces Kennedy will have and also what Disney would be willing touch.

As a fan my biggest concern today is someone trying to de-canonize "The Clone Wars" and "Rebels." I can easily see someone just dismissing them as cartoons and pretending like they never happened. At that point I would then have a choice to make as to what I want to accept as the real canon.

At least with the Terminators movies I can accept stuff I liked that was erased still existing in a alternate timeline. Which would for me be T3 and the Sarah Connor Chronicles tv show. I'm more than happy to loose the rest yet I also like that for people who do like those movies can still see them as happening in another timeline as well. Except for me the tv show is the real sequel to the first two movies and everything else exists in these alternate timelines. It is the 3rd best Terminator thing IMO after the first 2 movies.

Yeah, that must be it.

I think they should just keep pushing on the newer show stuff. They clearly found an innovative niche and should capitalize on it like Lucas would. I would welcome a remake and think it would be fun to do with Hayden and Ewan, but that's just me. To my mind, a remake takes nothing away from the original, and can be enjoyable in its own right.

I think the issue is if they want to make something new but in the near future from the classic movies. Of course they can always go hundreds of years before the prequels and 100 years after the sequels if they want to go with a blank canvas. But if they want to do something new but still uses some elements of the classic movies they either got to work around the sequel stuff or erase the sequel stuff.

For example I could see them wanting to do a show about a new improved Jedi Order that Luke has made or maybe they want to do something more faithful to the old books that use to be seen as canon.

Or I could see them thinking. I sort of like Rey but I don't like some of the things they did with the character. I want to write a show or movie with a new improved Rey with a different backstory.

Something akin to what the MCU it seems is doing with the Daredevil character. He will sort of be connected to the Netflix show he was in but not really in terms of canon. Or what they did with Superman recently when they decided he was not in the Arrowverse after all.

Not going to happen.

First off; for better or worse the company has gone to great lengths to at least give the appearance of honouring George's legacy. So the odds that they're going to "erase" any of his work, much less one of the last things he did before retiring are decidedly slim.
Secondly, Kennedy is not the driving creative force at the company. She's not the Kevin Feige of Star Wars. That's not how Lucasfilm operates, any that's not likely to change no matter who gets that job next. It's mostly a supervisory and administrative position. The gig is mostly to oversee the business side of things, not hand down narrative dictates.

1) That's not going to happen. 2) If it did, who cares? All canon really means is that the new stuff should pay attention to it. If the franchise gets to the point of no longer making things that consider those shows in-continuity they it would have likely strayed so far as to be unrecognisable, in which case the "new" stuff probably won't really be Star Wars anymore. So again; who cares? "Canon" is not some magical property that once removed makes a thing cease to exist. It's just an arbitrary label and should be treated as such.

Anyway, all of this is stuff that isn't likely to even be a remote possibility until at least another 20 or 40 years down the road. Colour me unconcerned.

When I say canon I mean it in the more broad in-continuity term. I do agree they would wait till George Lucas died when it comes to Classic Star Wars. With that I would also give it 20 years or so before they touch it. Maybe 15 at the lowest.

The Sequels I could see them replacing in 5 to 15 years. Same with the cartoons. Frankly the moment Filoni stops working for them is when they become vulnerable.

To what? Fans worry over strange things...the worst we get is new edits.

This was not a point of confusion.

Nor that.

Yeah, because there's obviously a horde of *checks notes* studio executives who give two shits about anything other than quarterly reports, just chomping at the bit to arbitrarily replace all the space wizard movies and cartoons with *checks notes again* other space wizard movies and cartoons, and the only thing holding them at bay is a mildly sarcastic artist in a cowboy hat.

Do try and get a grip, there's a good chap!

Disney might not care but someone they hire might want to do it. I think Disney itself could care less if the sequels stay or go as long as the new stuff makes money. But if the person who comes in and replaces Kennedy wants to dump the sequels for artistic reasons because they want to revamp the SW universe much like how Discovery is junking the ongoing DC universe and starting over then I don't see why they would step in and stop it.

I think they might have something to say about redoing the classic films because that would be a major controversy that they would need to think about before saying yes but I am thinking 2 things they would at this time be most protective of would be Classic SW and The Mandalorian and even in that case Baby Yoda.

Everything else would be. Do want you want. Just make it profitable. Maybe a demand for a certain tone. Fun and escapism over serious and edgy. I can see them looking at Andor for example as a failure despite being a good show because of low ratings and not making the impact you would hope for.

We also know they are wanting to tinker with the MCU after Phase 4 didn't hit quite as good as they wanted. One of the reasons why Kennedy and Chapek is finally out is I think they might be wanting to get their two big money makes back on track.

He can be if someone new comes in and wants her to be. Granted I don't think that would be a good place to go. I would have kept the orphan background but also have her a student of Luke from a young age along with Ben Solo.

Maybe even give them a romance. Have we ever seen two Jedi in love with each other and who break the rules? We have seen them have feelings for others without Jedi powers but never with someone with them.

Just how powerful would a child be that was born from the love making of two strong Jedi lovers I wonder. To me that would be fun show or movie. Or explore this child when he or she has grown up. What if the timeline was changed just so this child was never born because of just how powerful he or she might become.

Why would Lucasfilm want to emulate the trainwreck/50-car pileup going on at DC?

This is only partly correct. Disney also cares a great deal about public perception. Completely undoing a work is a PR nightmare, and one that would negatively impact the view of Disney. If Disney hires someone who is that "scorched earth" they are going to rein that in significantly to ensure there is no public backlash. So, again, hypothetical scorched earth policy is purely hypothetical.

So tell that story. Don't bother with undoing current work.

And to be 100% clear the Prequels were so unpopular that people did the online petition thing for Disney to buy LFL and redo them.

Right...Iger is back in and he was the one who worked closely with Kennedy before. Iger learned from his mistakes with TLJ and Solo so Kennedy is not out.

DC is making the change because they have been doing badly and need to make a change. The Snyderverse while making some money I think can be seen as a failure at this point. Now they want to start over with a young Superman and I am guessing recasting all of the characters. Though their is some talk about bringing Affleck back so it's always confusing as to what they are doing over their.

From what I understand they are waiting for the Indiana Jones movie to come out before she steps down in some kind of buyout. She has already signed a severance deal. I means their has been speculation before but this time it feels more legit and less fan wish fulfillment.

I don't really see it as them going scorched earth. They got the Mandalorian and the Ahsoka series around that are or will likely be popular. Plus the beauty of a multi-universe which is in essence what they would be creating is the ability to eat your ice cream and have it to. The Sequels can still exist and not exist at the same time. Abrams was very smart to do this with Trek because people would have been outraged if the Prime Universe was implied to simply been erased from all existence.

We also should consider the new person who takes over also will possibly bring excitement. Lots of people keep wanting to give the job to Kevin Feige. I could see him taking the job. Giving Favreau and Filoni more power over all the creative stuff in SW while Disney also giving Victoria Alonso more power in the MCU.

She does seem to be someone Feige is grooming to replace him when he is ready to move on from the MCU. I think it's been said also Feige, as much as he likes the comics, is a bigger Star Wars fan so would likely jump at the chance to run Star Wars.
