Cara Dune

Vulture

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I'm a big fan of spin offs and shorts and the endless opportunities for endless stories.

That's why I gotta belive we'll see Cara Dune again.

Does Gina Carano have likeness rights?
Recasting is common under Disney.
And what's preventing them from doing it in an animated format with a new voice actor?

Recently watched; Mando 2x4 The Siege, f/ Cara.
Watching 1 ep a week including Boba leading up to Mando 3x1.

I can't imagine she has rights over her own likeness at Disney. You have to be a top-tier star to negotiate that sort of thing and Carano never was.

Recasting is common under Disney, but I haven't heard so much as a whisper about them resurrecting that Rangers idea in any form, so, I think, with the other vehicles currently in play, it's probably done for the foreseeable future.

You could recast but it would be kind of pointless. Big reason the character worked was because of the actor. One of the reason you buy her as being this kick ass fighter is because Carano was a mixed martial arts fighter in real life. She both looked the part and was played well enough to be more than some muscles in more dramatic scenes.

Plus they could just hire the first actor back. Talk about giving her a second chance and all of that. Just for the love of God keep her off of Twitter. They already did this with Tim Allen when they made a new Santa Claus series.

People are banned until they are not banned. Disney can do whatever they want in that regard. If they can make money off her though it seems foolish to not bring her back. Especially since enough time has passed since the big drama was at it's zenith.

People I would ask first though would be Favreau and Filoni if they wanted her back. IMO they would be the ones with the final say on the issue.

When it comes to this kind of thing Disney only really cares about appearances (though enough money can make them reconsider.) It's why they were so easily baited into unjustly firing James Gunn and took so long to re-hire him again.
In this instance the firing was actually justified, and whether the decision was made by The Mouse or by Lucasfilm, it's a safe bet that any re-hiring decision is Lucasfilm's to make (unless her box office draw skyrockets, I can't imagine Disney giving enough of a crap to actually lobby for her return.) Given the culture at LF, I doubt we'll be seeing her there again anytime soon, and good riddance.

As for Cara Dune . . . I guess we'll find out in a few months how they're handling it. We know from the trailers that Dyn is headed back to Nevarro in season 3 and that Carl Weathers (who is not a bigot and thus not fired) will be back. So Cara will either be there and recast, or she won't be and there'll be some throwaway line about her getting promoted to a better assignment/arrested for aiding in the escape of a prisoner/killed attempting to arrest a room full of drunk wookiees. Or there'll be no such line and the character will be left in limbo. Maybe to never be heard from or mentioned ever again, maybe to get some further development in print media. Probably more likely the former.

If they happen to have a role for her character to play, my personal preference is that they just replace her with Iden Versio.
They already did this with Tim Allen when they made a new Santa Claus series.
Whatever else Allen may be, he's still in a totally different league than Carano. The former is worth the slight PR hit to bring back because he'll make them way more money. The latter . . . is not, and certainly will not.

Wouldn't it be a third, fourth or fifth (at least) chance by now?

She's not the only MMA fighter turned actor in the world, and plenty of people can give the impression of being able to kick arse without needing to be able to back that up in real life. It's acting at the end of the day.

She probably signed away her likeness rights, there was a toy figure.
As for her, hope they do bring her back at some point. She was well liked by the crew.

Disney has quite enough of those already. It was nice to have someone who was formidable in real life for once.

Lucasfilm could always hire Rhonda Rousey.

It would be to much of a copy of the Cara Dune character. It would be like the Dukes of Hazard trying to get away with replacing the main characters with Coy and Vance right down to them wearing the same clothes.

If you don't bring back the real Cara Dune you might as well go in another direction with a different type of character. Or IMO just extend the role of the Bill Burr character. Even though I like Cara Dune I really liked his character even better.

New character would be fine as well. Just make her or him not feel like a copy of Cara Dune. I wouldn't mind seeing a new alien we have never seen in the SW universe before.

The gist was "Republicans today are treated worse than the Jews were in Nazi Germany."

She is dune.

A tiny irony is that yesterday I was watching season two of Silicon Valley and the billionaire villain said during a TV interview "Billionaires today are treated worse than the Jews in Nazi Germany."

I don't think she was alluding to Republicans, but rather a segment of the population that was officially demonized and targeted for harassment and exclusion from society.

actual quote...

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,”

Being socially persecuted is a thing.

Extermination is another thing.

Gina is obviously talking about the exclusion felt by Jewish people before they were hearded into gas showers, which is just a stupid break in the distinction to make.

So this is possibly what she meant, in the best possibly light...

"Republicans are like the Jews just before they were herded into ghettos and definitely before 6 million of them were exterminated, but yes Republicans are feeling an equal level of persecution to the pre-ghetto Jews from 1941."

Which is a tonally vacant thing to say.

She was making a Nazi metaphor to neighbors turning on fellow neighbors. Every comparison to modern woes have people going to basically 3 places. Nazi Germany,Orwell and George Carlin.

Nobody follows Godwin's law anymore and almost nobody has read Orwell but everyone knows the quotes and everyone of course thinks Carlin would be on their side of the argument when they quote him.

What can you say. Nazi Germany was bad and thus really sends a message of fear of what we might become and Orwell and Carlin were witty and brilliant with words so they can always illustrate a point no doubt better than the person using them for their quotes.
