Captain's Table: Fanfic Edition

i would like to propose a Fan Fiction version of the Pocket Book novel event The Captain's Table

i'm working on my contribution and will post it as soon as i'm done.

Oh, I could stir up some trouble in here...

Well, my guls are quite well-behaved, actually. (Except for Speros.) The question is how others would handle it... ;)

There have been one or two fanfic stories using the "Captain's Table" premise. At least one United Trek author (I'm embarrassed to admit, I can't remember who) that posted a story a while back.

It's a fun (if somewhat bizarre) format. I look forward to your story! :)

That would have been Dark Territory's Corruption of Blood by DarKush. It's available at UnitedTrek.org.

I would be willing to try, I'd have to pick up one of the books to understand the format, couldn't find much on it online.

^^ With the O.P.'s blessing, I'd like permission to contribute. Please elaborate on your "acceptable submission" criteria. Will this project be limited to canon characters / ships, et al, or will there be O.C.'s allowed?

Remind me, the bar appears different for everyone, looking like their "ideal" bar, yes? And is it one story to pay for one drink, or is the one story the price of the night's admission?

Ahhh, interesting...so my guls would see a Cardassian bar rather than a human one? I'd forgotten that detail! I'm not sure about the part with the payment...this article doesn't make it too clear.

What's really interesting to ponder is this--how the bartender's name and appearance would come across to the guls. I wonder if they would see him as Cardassian and get a translated version of his name?

Ahh, OK.

Doing some research, I just saw that a Klingon went into the Captain's Table once. Anyone know how Klag perceived the place, and perceived the bartender?

As CeJay said I did write a Captain's Table story a couple years back and would be interested in doing another. I think the concept is neat.

Regarding Klag, I have no idea, but in my story the CT was like neutral territory for people to laugh, drink, and swap stories. Sort of like that scene at the bar in the middle of the Klingon Civil War on the TNG two-parter "Redemption." In my story, I had Captain Pike and the Klingon Kaaj, from the Marvel Early Voyages series, on very friendly terms, while in the comic Klaaj hated Pike. It was my way of making note of a comic series I enjoyed but also to demonstrate how I perceived the CT as a timeless place where all 'captains' can come.

Which is at least comforting to know that a barfight wouldn't erupt the instant Cardassians set foot in there. ;)

Anyone else know, maybe how Klag saw the place?

Having seen the Galor Signal shining bright, I've popped in to help. ;)

Klag saw the Captain's Table as a typical Klingon Empire tavern, with weapons and trophies hanging on the walls, etc (this was in the "Tales From the Captain's Table" anthology). Your Guls would no doubt see a Cardassian tavern or equivalent.

Sosot mekot-ra edikouv-ra çadav edek indeed! :)

WOW...good memory there!!!! :cardie: You actually remembered those words!

And how did Klag see "Cap"? Human, or Klingon?

^ I don't believe that was ever established, sorry.

And actually, I didn't remember the actual words, I must admit. I remembered that you'd established the phrase, and that it was appropriate to this context, so decided to include it. I cheated and looked it up in the phrasal glossary on the fan-fic Wiki you've placed it on. ;)

I have a good memory, but it's not quite that good

Hey--does this baby have a time limit? Becauese I've had this idea for Ezri's Captain's Table experience--though I haven't even started writing it!

(I'm actually in the process of writing my first Trek Novel--and also in the middle of my next fanfic, another Section 31 tale. I'm kinda booked--but I could get another ball rolling, I think....)
