Captain Robau - unprecedented fan response?

Was Boba Fett ever envisioned from the start as anybody?

I remember how cool it was when somebody with a Boba Fett suit always showed up for reruns of Star Wars and paced the lobby with his blaster in the early 1980's at our university student cinema.

Clearly that character captured viewers' imaginations.

While Boba Fett is the most obvious example, I wasn't just referring to him. Several meaningless characters from the Star Wars movies have had video games, novels and even comic books devoted to them, giving them extensive backstories and action figures. Just take a look at Wookiepedia's page on Momaw Nadon for example. Or even better, Wuher the bartender.

And don't forget ICE CREAM MAKER GUY.

Long have we wanted an action figure of this dude.

I think that guy now has an action figure.

I can't begin to explain the Chuck Norris-ification of the character, but I think he came across really well in his few minutes of screen time. Like others have said in the thread, a lot better than most of the non-Kirk captains from the movies.

I don't really know the actor from anything else, but in just a few minutes of screen time he did a good job of conveying the Starfleet Captain feel.

A thought that interests me is that if the destruction of the Kelvin is the branch point between Prime and Abrams, then Robau may have continued to serve out a full career in the Prime universe. Maybe he was even an Admiral during the Five Year Mission.

LOL So how do Robau lovers feel about the movie now, given that it killed their favourite character ; )

Robau lovers have been knowing about and discussing his existence in the prime universe since May 7 and looking forward to reading about his exploits (and those of George and Winona) in Trek Lit. It's not like they were intending to make a movie about him in any reality.

I love it! But you knew that already. ;)

Bring on the Robau novel.

Which is really too bad. I'd watch it.

I think the Captain Robau thing is just a bit of harmless fun. We considered doing Facts About Spock, but we couldn't figure out which one we'd be talking about.

There already is one; it's called the Bible.

Robau exuded dignity faced with impossible odds. He had composure, and the way he sacrificed himself was a testament to his character. To be killed by an ignoble adversary is not to surrender. To sacrifice oneself to steal a couple minutes time for the safety of your crew is not a failure. Robau and George Kirk died honorable deaths.
I think this is good; in fact, in addition to George Kirk, Robau is the guy Spock is talking about regarding the true purpose of the Kobayashi Maru test.

TRUTH.

*sigh*

I like that. Every time I say something snippy, almost EVERYONE ignores it, BUT ONE decides to make an elephant out of it. And eventually it's of course turned around so that I was the one who took it too seriously to begin with.

Well, frankly, I don't care anymore. But I'm sure someone, either Robau or M'Sharak, is soon going to rule in your favor. ;)

Friend, a snippy remark at the expense of others is still an insult. You can't blame anyone for calling you out on that. And if it happens enough to the point where you yourself notice a pattern...

Also, I don't have the audacity to know if Robau will rule in my favor. This is why I offer the daily animal sacrifice! That's also why I smell of goat blood right now.

::licks fingers::

They need to die so my honor may be avenged!!!

BEAUTIFULLY said. I couldn't have expressed my feelings better than this! :techman:

Agreed. This is THE answer. No other applicants need reply.

Abrams said he wanted to show there were strong and brave captains in Stafleet other than Kirk. Robau and Pike were those captains.
If that had been James T. Kirk in command of the Kelvin at that time, his luck would've run out, too. And, he probably would've done exactly what Robau did to try to buy time for his ship and crew. Indeed, Kirk did do such things, but his luck never ran out.

Robau is one of the only peripheral TREK captains to show any competence and courage in the face of danger and even death. Plus, Faran Tahir is a super-awesome, nice and down-to-earth actor with a good sense of himself. He seems to be a great human being who "gets" things and his place in the business.

Plus...Robau is just plain BADASS.

Anger him...and you will perish in the flash of his bald head.

It would be more fun for Star Wars fans if they had a few hundred episodes on screen.
*cough* Clone Wars *cough*
Uh...yeah... I honestly thought a TV show would be good for everybody. If successful, it could spark other sci-fi. What's the ETA on the TV show? I heard there was one being considered.

So far as I know, Lucas and McCallum are still working on the live-action series and it is still supposed to come out, most likely on a cable channel. I don't know what's taking so long. Maybe they're having issues casting and writing the first shows?
