Did anyone else think Greenwood was a great Captain Pike? I thought he lent great maturity and gravity to the role of a starship captain. Actually, so to Captain Robau. It's too bad Pike won't still be captain for the next movie (it would have been interesting to see Kirk et al grow into their roles of leadership and responsibility rather than simply get rocketed into them). oh well!
Sadly no-one here really seems to like Pike. I think he's actually one of the most loathed characters/actors from the new movie.
Don't put me in that camp. I really liked Pike (and Greenwood as Pike) and hope they have a strong part for him in the next movie.
Pike in this movie was great. He was the "inspiration" for Kirk to join and excel in Starfleet. I hope he's back too.
Everyone liked Pike except for the few who wanted Ray Liotta for purely cosmetic reasons, one of whom complained that they didn't bother to look for people on the entire planet who looked exactly like the original actors.
I loved Greenwood's portrayal - he exuded competence, authority, but also knew how to handle people. His only questionable decision is to promote Kirk to acting first officer - I mean, Kirk's not even finished the academy yet... The only thing I didn't quite catch was whether he was in the wheelchair permanently or not. I mean, wasn't that bug of the same kind as the one Khan used in TWOK to get the captain and Chekov to comply? But how then did Pike get paralysed? (And I hope the issue of his "betraying" Earth's security codes will be addressed in later movies, if ever Pike turns up again. At least some comment should have been made...)
Oops. Sorry 'bout that. I stayed almost completely spoiler free for this one, so I am just starting to get a feel for what other thought. You know this board. For all I knew, you were shooting straight.
I loved Greenwood's Pike. He had an awesome presence about him, and I'm kinda hoping that they work him into future movies somehow. Greenwood was truly meant to be a Star Trek captain.
