Captain Pike and Kirk comparison

Okay,

Most of us have seen "The Cage" and "the Menagerie" and the trailers for "Star Trek XI" so we have seen Christopher Pike. My question is while both Kirk and Pike are good starship captains, what makes them different in regards to personality, style of command...etc.?

Captain Pike was the more thoughtful of the two. Nor was Pike depicted as particularly "gung ho" about throwing his ship and crew into harms way. Pike was more aware of the burdens of command than Kirk.

I would say that Pike was a far more responsible starship commander than Kirk. Kirk could at times be a bit wreckless with his command.
