Captain Picard Day on Virgin1 (UK)

Servo

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
For some reason, Virgin 1 has declared tomorrow to be Captain Picard Day, and is taking a break from its regular weekday schedule, to bring us 8 straight hours of TNG.

Starting at 9am, and running til 5pm, V1 will show the following episodes...

The Big Goodbye
Captain's Holiday
Family
Darmok
The Inner Light
Tapestry
Lessons
The Pegasus

Just FYI. Enjoy. :)

A bit of googling later, and I've discovered that June 16th is generally considered to correspond to Stardate 47457.1 - the date of Captain Picard Day in the episode "The Pegasus".

You learn something new everyday.

If today is Captain Picard Day, I guess it's fitting that I dropped a Captain Picard reference into a column this week:
When gambling's not the driving force, however, it gets a much better shake. Television series from "M*A*S*H" to "Star Trek: The Next Generation" have featured poker games as ways to develop characters and occasionally explore an episode's theme. These incidental depictions of gambling are usually value-neutral or even positive.

The series finale for "Star Trek: The Next Generation" ended with Captain Jean-Luc Picard at last joining the officer's regular game. His final words, "the sky's the limit," aren't just about the game; they suggest the crew's continuing adventures. Gambling here isn't the scourge of Dostoyevsky and Serling; it's a metaphor for the human adventure.

I probably do that more than I should. But it makes sense in the context of the bigger story.

^^^ I think "The Inner Light" is pretty good, and "Captain's Holiday" is fun. The only one I'd want to switch out is "The Big Goodbye," for "Yesterday's Enterprise."
