Captain Kirk's Blanket Statement

Ptrope

Agitator
Admiral
Okay, maybe not the most informative subject line, but hopefully someone with both the curiosity and the answer will respond :bolian:.

I'm looking for a sample image of the material used for blankets, chair coverings, etc. in TOS - specifically (as I remember it) the somewhat rust-colored fabric that looked like it had a pattern of silver triangles all over it. I've built a 3D model of the crew quarters, and want the right texture for the blanket on the bed, but Googling "Trek" and "blanket" images doesn't get me anything relevant.

Help?

Here's a "capture" from "The Man Trap" showing a close-up of McCoy's pillow, which I assume tggo be the same material used upon the mattress.

It appears to be composed of "weaved" squares varying between a light and darker "shimmering" orange.

Xcalpro made a decent version of the texture when he constructed his recovery bed.

Sincerely,

Bill

You know the fact that one can see the indivigual HAIRS on De's arms should tell you that maybe HD isn't a GOOD thing.

Thanks, Redfern! I was looking through some of the TrekCore caps - I remembered that the same material was used on the deponent's chair in the court room scenes in "Court Martial," but the shots weren't close enough to get any good detail. I've been looking through eps I knew showed the quarters of various folks, but didn't think about "The Man Trap!"

EDIT: using the cap from "The Man Trap" for reference, I made a texture for the blanket, including a bump map and a specular map - I think it's pretty close :bolian:

Oh man, that stuff would be so difficult to do. Certainly since each square reflects light. Good luck Ptrope!

Thanks, Plum! The hardest part is getting the pattern and proportions right - the reflection is actually the easy part, since I made a black-and-white version of the red-and-gold pattern; I can use the b/w image both for a bump map, which makes all the white (gold) portions deeper than the black (red) fabric, and for a specular map, which makes the white (gold) sections shiny while the black (red) fabric is not.

Sure beats modeling all those little squares! :D
