Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and JFK? (Roddenberry's movie)

(Mods: I apologize if this gets too far away from Star Trek topics and will contentedly abandon the thread if directed.)

Same here, as I just want to reply to a couple of points:

Then, too, the things that usually favor the incumbent were in full swing in 1964 and I don't see how many of them would be different if Kennedy had not been murdered: good economy, generally few domestic crises,

It was just the opposite; remember, the Civil Rights movement was growing to the point where the governors/statewide law enforcement ramped up their plotting against the movement (already a solid front pre-'64). JFK was infamously lukewarm-to-slow in putting the full weight of his office behind it (as LBJ would months into 1964). Even if he lived, the same conflicts would have erupted into the election year, with JFK's hand being forced as CORE moved into Mississippi (Freedom Summer--and what happened one day before), other civil rights groups were not going to halt their activities in order to please tepid politicians, while the KKK and mirror organizations shot and bombed victims all year long.

That was front page / lead TV news for most of 1964 and '65, and occupied most of the F.B.I's time (despite the decidedly anti-Civil Rights / racist beliefs of J. Edgar Hoover), so JFK would have been just as troubled...but would he have the will/political clout of LBJ? One can only guess.

dunno if this has been posted before but this footage of of shatner appearing as Kirk at a South Carolina parade has an eerie JFK feel to it ...the silent B&W, jumpy, JFKness of it...

(see 3/4 of way through)

its like its not Shatner but Captain Kirk in the 1960s!....like some Area 51 top secret footage of a starship commander from the future who landed in the 60s..Or something out of an old twilight zone ep where Kirk has landed Tomorrow is Yesterday style to take the place of JFK

Anyway the Trek II JFK movie does sound quite interesting - in a Star Trek meets its origins type thing (similar to FC and ST09) as JFK is sort of like one of the forefathers of Trek ....And it would’ve been interesting to see 1980s movie era Kirk and Spock back in the 60s…

Maybe they should adapt the Trek II JFK as a comic mini series…in fact maybe IDW should do a ‘Lost Movie’ line and adapt all the movies that didn’t happen into comics (Planet of the Titans Motion Picture, JFK Trek II, Starfleet Academy Trek VI, Yesterdays Enterprise Generations, Heart of Darkness Insurrection, ST XI Avengers type Crossover, ST The Beginning trilogy). Its happening for Star Wars (the comic series of the original SW draft)

Great idea, but would the permission of the orginal screenwriters be required?

Probably not, but payments, maybe, depending on the contracts.

Then again, it's unclear if there ever were actual scripts for all of those, or just treatments.
