That makes perfect sense to me too.

#5 - he makes mistakes. I've always found flawed characters to be more relatable and therefore more believable, so Kirk was and still is interesting today.

Kirk is one of the more interesting figures of Star Trek. He is action oriented, thoughtful, charming and charismatic. He also is flawed, passionate and capable of mistakes.

Kirk is very iconic, and I have enjoyed watching him over the years, and the new path with Abrams Kirk.

But, yes, James T. Kirk is an enduring space hero.

Being it's Phillip Jose Farmer, Kirk would also be related to Honey West, Wally West, Don West, Paul (DC's Manhunter) Kirk and Timmy Kirk from Oz.

I thought it was interesting that Shatner wrote that he based the Kirk character on an IDEALIZED version of himself.
