Captain Jack and River Song

TheLobes

Commander
Red Shirt
Are they going to be back for more episodes?

Im guessing River will be although I suppose its no longer one hundred percent necessary, but what about Jack, will he be in DW again? I never liked Torchwook, but I really enjoyed his inclusion in the Master trilogy, and I think he'd have good chemistry with the new Doctor.

I've heard John has met with Moffat about appearing again, I'm not sure if anything ever got finalized, but perhaps we will see him in next season. Hopefully post Miracle Day, so we get some throwaway line where the Doctor references that.

Jack was orginally meant to be in A Good Man Goes To War, but the shooting dates clashed with Miracle Day's filming - so we know there's no production team objection to him reappearing in DW.

Alex Kingston is joining Upstairs Downstairs, so I dunno if she'd be *as* available for so many episodes - but that show will be filmed next door to DW in the new studio, so she could always pop through to do guest spots and cameos.

He would have been a good fit for AGMGTW. I wonder if it was the Silurian and lover/sidekick that took his spot in that episode.

It would be great to have both River and Jack in the same episode, would love to see the interaction between those two.

They have both been to the 52nd? century and both had squareness guns, maybe they already know each other?

I liked the Silurian, but it kind of annoyed me how that episode built up the whole 'go to war' thing with no real climax. Think it would have been a better idea to just use Jack and River with maybe one other.

John has stated at both SDCC and on various youtube videos that he would love to return and has spoken to Moffat about it, in one recent interview he stated that it was in the fans hands and they should spread the word about it. He also seemed very excited about the possibility of working with Matt Smith. I personally think this is only a matter of time and availability. I had no idea he was slated to appear in "A Good Man Goes to War".

Well he would be, wouldn't he?

Seriously, I would love to see this pairing. Jack would probably come on to this young guy in the tweed jacket, to which the Doctor would say: "Ahh Jack, you're still an impossible thing".

I don't know. With the Torchwood archives, Jack probably knows more of the Doctor's faces than the Doctor does.

For a really long time, I've had this mad dream of writing a Torchwood novel that stars Jack and the amnesiac eighth Doctor of the EDAs.

They both lived out a century-plus, stranded on Earth. They're both immortal (essentially so, in the Doctor's case). And neither one has a freakin' clue who the other one really is. (Jack, because even though he knows the Doctor's faces, he doesn't know the Doctors' order. The Doctor, because he's lost his memory and isn't sure if Jack, on those occasions when he's aware of Jack, is someone he's supposed to know.)

It's never going to happen -- it's fanwankish for a novel continuity that only hard-core fans care about -- but it's a lovely dream. And in my head, it's real. :)

That's an interesting point. While we're at it, maybe Jack gives River the pictures of the Doctor so she knows who he is always that she mentioned.

So write it for your pleasure, and then shop it to the decision makers as a quick, ready to release product.

Tie-in fiction doesn't work like that. :)

Maybe if I get as big as Alistair Reynolds, then maybe if I get asked to write one of the new hardcover PDAs, then I could pitch BBC Books on this story. Maybe. :)

My one wish is for a River and Captain Jack scene. I also really wanted River to meet Sarah Jane Smith but sadly that won't happen now. But it would be nice if River mentioned her one day.

OK, then write it for our pleasure, we'll gush all over it like Fanboys should do with Fanwank, and you'll be fulfilled :) :alienblush:

Mitty, yea, A River and Sarah Jane Scene woulda been made of AWESOME

Well oddly it might make her more available because at least she'd be in the UK. I read one interview where either Alex or Moffat said it'd be tricky to have her as a season long companion because she divides her time between England and LA.

That said much as she's grown on me I think River in every ep might be a bit much.
